Minor adventure at the county dump today. Had accumulated various old computer parts over the years. A number of circuit boards, whole computers, cables & whatnot. I've been shelping this crap around from place to place because I know I'm not just supposed to put it in the trash, but was too lazy to actually dispose of it properly. Finally found official disposal instructions, and decided to take it out to the dump.
Let's start by saying the directions there weren't exactly clear. Talk of multiple entrances, depending on type of junk. Non-county resident entrances. And bulk, 'special item', or by-the-ton entrances. I followed the directions I thought were correct, toodling around with large trucks, men in hazmat suits, roads covered in debris, and little o' me. Finally found the first human being after maybe half a mile, at which point he looks at me (in the sports car brimming with old computer junk) and declares "You don't want to be here." (no shit) "The residential entrance is around the corner, past where you entered." So I turn around amid the mass of commercial vehicles and finally make it over to the residential area. Maybe it'd be nice if the sign didn't say "Landfill, turn right here ->" ?
The person over at the residential area was much nicer. Though because my car still has temporary FL tags, I had to smile extra nice to convince her that I should be allowed to drop my crap off. Apparently, both a county driver's license address && MD tags are supposed to be required. Finally got to drop everything off. As I start to leave, I almost got sideswiped by an out of control Esclade driver that was a) eating, b) talking on a cell phone, and c) playing music so loud I couldn't hear my music with my windows up.
At least I know where to go now. And I'm sure the guy down at the commercial entrance will go home tonight and tell his version to general amusement.
