As I sit here on the couch eating a soy hotdog straight from the can, I know it's going to be the perfect summer day. I'm already kind of warm and it's going to be 90 degrees out. And we're going to the river to barbeque and swim! The Sandy river is my absolute favorite place in Portland, at least in the summer. I remember when I was younger, Keeley's dad would drive us to random spots all over and we'd go hiking and exploring all along the river. I felt like nomadic desert people, with garish wal-mart beach towels as our only shelter. We'd set out early in the day and come home late in the evening, exhausted and covered in sand. Sometimes we'd bring the air mattress and float down to a certain point, or catch frogs in the swampy part. It seems like we went to the river every single day of every summer from the time I was six to eleven years old. Then we stopped going so much, or I stopped coming along. Now when I go to the river, it's not nearly as adventurous. We just go to the Glen Otto bridge and find a spot with all the other hordes of people wanting to cool off. Sometimes it's a little more fun though, only because I can drive and say "fuck" whenever I want.
Summer = going to the river
