I spent the whole morning defrosting the freezer and exhausted myself. Never again. I’ll either bite the bullet and buy a frost-free freezer or get someone to do the job for me ( Read more... )

How nice that we can share these memories! I never liked Connors, which is why I was so glad he lost that match. Lucky you, to have seen Borg and McEnroe play. Borg certainly was a heartthrob, back in the day. I'm glad he seems to have overcome his demons and is friends with Mac.

I've been to Wimbledon just once, back in the seventies, when I was teaching just a bus ride away. A colleague and I decided to go after school. It was so different then. Now, you see people camping out all night on the pavement hoping for a ticket and huge crowds on Henman Hill, watching the play on giant screens. Back then, my friend and I just walked in. We wandered around the outside courts, seeing some famous players like Yvonne Goolagong. Also some famous people, not players, just strolling about as we were. We were hanging about when a couple came off one of the main courts and said, 'We have to go. Would you like our tickets?' Would we! Great seats, too, right at the front. I don't think that would be allowed now. We even had some strawberries, so we could say we'd had the Wimbledon experience. Everything was so much more free and easy then.

I always wanted to attend Wimbledon just to say I did. SUCOL has a Law in London program and several of the students who attended made it a point to go to Wimbledon (and tell me about it). I remember Yvonne. I remember the year Andre Agassi won Wimbledon and I cried. The networks used to show it here, they don't anymore but you made me remember some amazing moments.
