I found out last night that one of my art teachers from middle school (had her in 6th and 8th grades) passed away on Thursday. Looking around my house there's little traces of her class everywhere. She was an amazing teacher; never spoke an ill word and could find beauty in anything her students made, which is just what kids in junior high need. So many things important things happened for me in her class: I learned a deeper appreciation for color, showed my love for Georgia O'Keefe, fell in love with working with clay, and solidified a couple of friendships that are still very dear to me today. It's incredible when you realize something is gone just how much of an impact it had on your life.
Rest in peace, Mrs. VanValer.
