Act of Faith

David sat, hands clasped in front of him. He was praying but not in the formal sense. He wasn't reciting familiar, instead he was searching his soul for the right answer. Looking to God for guidance.

At first, it seemed obvious to him what he should do. That maybe this step outside of time was a chance to set right the terrible wrong about to occur. David was determined that this was the right course and was angered when Tony disagreed.

It was so clear then.

Later, he spoke to Jack and the doubt that he had held back began seeping into his mind. Maybe it was arrogance on his part to think that he should change anything. He shouldn't interfere not knowing the consequences it could have on the future. If Jack could accept his fate, then so should he.

However, David wasn't satisfied with that answer. To know something is about to happen and not prevent it went against everything he believed.

Hand still clasped, one thumb rubbed against the other. Idly, he wondered why he still wore the ID bracelet Sherry had given him for his 45th birthday.

I have to accept this. It wasn't a perfect answer but the only one he could settle on. The only one that felt right. Everything would happen as it was meant to and that if he should act, he'd be given that chance.

He had to have faith.
