Dr. Sketchy's was awesome last night. Our model was Saia, who was a circus performer, she did some pretty cool things with a hula hoop. I was surprised that the turnout was small, probably seventeen or eighteen people, and for a while I was the only girl in the room. A strange, understated guy named Steve sat down next to me and we made small talk. He was a computer software developer and he came up from Silicone Valley, which somehow didn't surprise me considering the creepy I've-never-seen-a-girl-with-her-clothes-off-before vibe that I was getting. Anyway, it was pretty fun, everybody joked around and a couple contests were held (one being 'best portrayal of the tentacles' from when Saia was dressed as an "alien", the second being 'best portrayal of Saia's expression while hula hooping'). Everybody did a great job - a lot of people inked, I was very impressed with their styles. I've never been to a life drawing session before, so I was surprised with how much I learned in such a short amount of time. I was happy with quite a few things I drew, which is rare because I'm never really satisfied with my work. I'd post them but I don't have a scanner or a digital camera, and on top of that I am extremely extremely private when it comes to my work. I don't like people looking at it until I'm "done", and having people around while I'm working on something makes me paranoid. This whole thing was a stretch for me. Afterwards, I stuck around for a second to take a look at the photographs and artwork hanging on the walls (the place was an art gallery during the day) and Steve followed me around, asking me if I was going to go to the party the next night (no), what I was "doing later" (meeting up with my roommate), what I was "going to do now" (look at the artwork). Of course I was trying my best not to open myself up to the invitation of drinks, which he still mentioned, but I tried to ignore it. He followed me around, which was extremely uncomfortable, and I managed to leave without him noticing me when he went to go look at the dressing room. Besides men with male-pattern balding hitting on me, it was a good time.
