My mum is a teacher. While we were in primary school she worked 3 days a week, and was able to meet us after school. Sometimes she did casual work on the other two days if needed. Her working hours were about 8am (she dropped us on the way to work) til 3pm and she met us at school rather than at home.
I think that was around 20 hours per week for her on average, and I don't feel that I missed anything by her working (can't speak for my brothers but they never showed any signs of it). A lot of jobs have flexible work hours now so you might be able to come to a similar arrangement, or work from home sometimes - one of my colleagues does 2 days a week and also in school holidays.
Perhaps you can find work at a school or somewhere that is friendly to school terms? Just a thought :)
