On the topic of art

To the Potter fans on my friends-list, I feel obliged to draw your attention to this: The Potterverse. Work like that is simply astounding.

In other news, I'm doing a painting in the Surrealist style for art class (approx. 16 by 20", acrylic on canvas board, if you care to know). Unfortunately, I must fail at painting or something because my shading is just horrible. Looks all sort of choppy, rather like Impressionist paintings. So now I'm secretly calling it "Impressionist Surrealism" because I'm just stupid like that. It looks good, though somewhat freaky. I know Surrealism generally doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense, but at least you could generally tell that you were looking at, say, a landscape. None of that in mine, but the teacher approved it so that's all that matters.

Also, I am slowly getting through Paolini's Eragon. It was a gift from my uncle, and considering there's a movie coming out in 2006 based on the book, I figured I'd at least try and read it. He's no J.K. Rowling in terms of writing, I can tell you. In fact, I find the writing rather bad, though I admit that it is a good book for a fifteen-year-old to have written. (If anything, it gives me some hope that maybe I could be published some day, though I admittedly don't have the advantage of having parents who own a publishing company :P)
