I bought a dog.
Yes, that is right, I bought me a friend. He is tiny and cute and black and I call him Mako. The name only sounds weird if you are unaware of my obsession with Legend of Korra. If you know me at all, you know how much I love Korra and you know how much I love Mako. (And Tenzin and Varrick and Lin Beifong. But mostly Tenzin because he is the b e s t.)
For the most part he is a good little dog. He doesn't bark, he understands that he does not get to walk in front of me or go out the door before me, he sleeps silently in his kennel for 8 hours, he goes to bed when I go to bed, and he's super soft and cuddly. Downside: His house training is lacking. For the most part he pees outside. About half the time he poops outside. Of the times he poops inside, half of it is on the puppy pad and the other half is somewhere around my house. This morning he pooped when I took him out first thing, so I didn't think twice about leaving him alone while I showered. Usually he hides under my bed while I shower, and since he likes it under there, I'm not worried about him pooping there. Today, however, pooping once wasn't enough, and for whatever reason underneath my bed wasn't interesting, so he wandered around and did his business in the upstairs carpeted hallway and I had to tell him he was a bad boy. If you have to poop in my house, dog, you do it on the puppy pad, not on the carpet.
Unfortunately for me, he's a dog, not a human, so there is no understanding of my words.
He's also really good with kids. He lets them chase him about and he doesn't bite or yip (unless they pick him up and squeeze him). So far he's liked all the other dogs he's met.
All around, I think I'll keep him.
Now ask me if I still feel the same come winter when it's cold and precipitating and I have to take the dog out...
friends,
mako
