Eternal truth I keep forgetting: you like the things they like, but they don't like the things you like. I have got to stop forgetting that.
In a related vein, I loved Justice League. The bad guy wasn't too bad, nothing horrible happened, and the characterization was fantastic. I first saw it Thursday night with Samwise and we about busted a gut laughing. My face hurt I was smiling so much. And after the movie, we couldn't stop talking about it, so we went out to dinner to carry on the conversation. It was wonderful.
I'm about to get spoilery, so if you don't want anything spoiled, now's your chance to run away.
I had a lot of favorite moments, but one of my favorite lines came from Bruce (paraphrased, but pretty darn close): "The world needs Superman. And this team needs Clark." The reason I like Superman so much is because he is a force for good in the world. He looks to do the right thing for the right reason, and why he does that is because that's how Jonathan and Martha Kent raised him. With all that power, Clark could have been anything, but he chose to get a job, love a woman, and be a productive member of society, helping out whenever and wherever he can. He could have taken over the world, but he didn't. And he was never tempted to do it in the first place. And I love that Bruce has finally realized that.
I also liked how this movie treated Bruce Wayne. He's so focused on getting Superman back because Superman is good, and the world needs Superman, and what will we be without Superman? And in the process, he completely undervalues himself, doesn't notice the good he's doing. He can't appreciate it because all he can see is the good Superman does/is, and how he, as Batman, doesn't measure up. Not that he feels inferior, but that he isn't as good. I'm hoping for a moment in the next movie where Bruce and Clark have a moment and Clark (or Superman) points out that although they do different things and are different people, Batman has made a difference in Gotham City and is, in his own way, a beacon of hope. And that combined, they are one heck of a powerhouse, and will use that power for good from the careful eyes of the Watchtower.
Aquaman was also fantastic, and I'm looking forward to his movie. Me! Looking forward to Aquaman! I like Jason Momoa and I thought he nailed the part (also thought he was British (GoT, anyone?) and was duly impressed with how well he played an American (Atlantean, whatever), but then I found out he was American, so that negated that). Lary says I have a weakness for men with fabulous hair and poor impulse control/who make terrible decisions, and she's right. I do. :)
Samwise and I have tentative plans to see it again, possibly on Wednesday, and I'm so looking forward to it.
