Disney Music

Yesterday I went to a low-key concert with Jillian, Nick, Boy Who Smiles, He Who Speaks With Sarcasm, Sean, and Sabrina. It was the Nashville Tribute Band who do country renditions of LDS...stuff. (Don't you just love my eloquent descriptions?) Jillian was the only one really excited to be there, but the rest of us had fun and enjoyed ourselves. It was a lovely way to spend an evening, AND we didn't get rained on! There was lightning all around, but we remained dry!

The real point of this story is I drove home with the boys (minus He Who Speaks With Sarcasm). We played Disney music, and the boys belted it out. They LOVED The Little Mermaid. Nick "owned" Under the Sea, as well as Be Prepared from The Lion King.

Now I love Disney music, and oft have I belted it out alone in my car or in my bedroom, or with other girls.

I have never belted it out with boys.

I thoroughly enjoyed belting it out with boys.

...Except for the part where it was painfully obvious I was the only girl because my voice was significantly higher than theirs. Ever since I botched my solo in fifth grade, I've had performance issues and don't like to sing in front of other people. It mortifies me.

But even that turned out okay. I later told Boy Who Smiles that I was marginally jealous of his range (seriously! He nailed the lowest of the lows, then turned around and nailed the highest of the highs! On a good day I might be able to hit the A below middle C and the F an octave above middle C--IF I'm lucky!), and he told me he was marginally jealous of my good singing. (Good thing we were on the porch swing and it was dark, else I might have blushed, because I have a blushing complex. But it was dark and we were on the porch swing, so I didn't blush.)

...And then I told him he was crazy because I kept switching octaves during the man-songs and it sounded something akin to awful, but whatever.

(I also said thank you! I've got some modicum of grace!)

We listened to The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, and Aladdin, and it was fabulous. Sean and Nick were hilarious. Nick fairly accurately imitates Sebastian, and Sean just loves to caterwaul wherever moderately appropriate.

I highly recommend listening to Disney with boys who know the words.

Trust me, it's worth it.

Sebastian: Are you sure about this?
Scuttle: Have I ever been wrong? I mean with it's important!

manlings, friends
