Baltimore in FOUR DAYS. How did the summer pass so quickly?
I'm auditioning for a job as a school pianist. Meaning, I accompany random people during recitals, auditions, juries, etc., which Peabody pays me for, and I charge for individual rehearsals myself. It sounds like a pretty cushy job, but auditions are never my forte. Even though I fancy myself a fairly decent sight reader, I'm always so unreliable under pressure, so who knows how I'll do? The audition's ten minutes, all sight reading, with either an instrument or singer. I'm guessing you don't get to choose one or the other.
The only thing I can do now is prepare like crazy; sight read as much music as I can get my hands on, cajole anyone who's still in town to play with me, brush up on theory (even though the thought of this utterly repulses me), and try to rely on my natural instincts.
As motivation, I'll remind myself that the alternative would be to get some stuffy library job, so I'd better whip myself into shape. Hup, two.
