I'm so glad I'm leaving. The principal at my school handed out the following letter to students while they were taking their state-wide exams. I present it to you in its entirety without further comment.
Dear (Student),
Today you came to school to take a Regents Examination. I am aware of the fact that you came in without a uniform to take this exam. You chose to come dressed in this manner despite knowing what our regulations are. You are one of eleven students who have committed this infraction and I am disappointed in you. I know now that my disappointment may not mean much to you since this may be your second offense this week.
Your lack of respect and disregard for our school rules, send a very clear message to me, the staff, and the UASBYW students who love, respect, and value this school and what we stand for. I hope that you reflect on this and that you find it in your hearts to be a little more considerate and respectful.
Your actions are sending clear messages to me and our entire community. I am letting you know that my only goal is to make sure that you become a success in the future. That can only happen if you are committed to your own success and follow the rules we have created.
In the end, it is up to you and only YOU to believe that you can succeed in this school and beyond.
Please STOP disrespecting my work and the work of everyone at UASBYW. Wear your uniform to school. Show dignity and respect for yourself and your school.
I expect you to do what is right today and always.
Respectfully,
Your Principal
