Today was our date day during Spring Break.
We went to Coney Island.
Before going there was a lot of anguish about the weather (apparently it was snowing in Manhattan) and whether or not the Wonderwheel, my favorite ride, would be open. We kept calling and they kept saying "we don't know yet, we don't know yet." But we decided to be brave and go anyway.
First we had Nathan's yummy yummy Hot Dogs. (and the obligatory complaining New Yorker behind us)
Then we went to the Wonderwheel. It was still not open; they were waiting for somebody to start the electricity or something, so we went to an arcade for a little. Matthew played some very complex airplane game that involved not only more than two buttons but also both feet. I'm never going to play those kinda games, so I just watched like a good girlfriend.
The Wonderwheel was finally open; by then we were in line behind a big group of German school kids. We went up in a swinging car, and just as the car slid down into the center for the first time, Matthew said "Will you marry me?" I couldn't believe it. I just looked at him. He pulled the ring out of his pocket showed it to me. I looked at him. I said "Yes." I started crying. It's a beautiful ring with a blue stone suspended in the middle. I'm looking at it on my finger and it's sparkling beautifully from my finger. I'm going to get married to the man I love so very much. I told him a little while ago that if he ever asked me to marry him, I wanted to have a good story to tell. He's been thinking about this for a long time. He's been waiting to ask me until Coney Island opened. He sneakily got my ring size. He got my best friend to help him pick out the ring. He got me a ring that matched my eyes. He asked for advice from his friends and his family. And he gave me a wonderful, wonderful story.
I got engaged. At Coney Island. On the Wonderwheel.
engaged,
