i realize that "yay" was totally not an appropriate comment for this post. i had accidentally posted it here when i meant to post that in euneeblic's latest entry.
djdigit and I were just talking about the role of ritual in feeling a sense of communion. he grew up in an evangelical church -ritual in protestantism is viewed suspiciously as seen as standing in the way of a 'true relationship with god'. so that made him very attracted to ritual, pomp, and circumstance.
i used to feel close to 'god' when singing beautiful praise songs in a group of people. since i'm never in church, this doesn't happen anymore. i still sing those songs every now and then on my own, but feel awkward and usually can't give my full self over because of the whole god thing.
I lived them. I know what every movement means because I asked and asked. I used to consecrate my cereal.
I think maybe what I want from paganism is what I already have/had in Catholicism. Ritual. A wheel of the year. Repetion. Beauty.
i hope you get that!
dave recently completed a ritual based on The Big Lebowski. it has lots of humor, with White Russians being the sacrament drink and "Let's go bowling" the liturgy. my kind of ritual. ;)
The Apostolic Johannite Church (http://www.johannite.org) is very high church, and very liberal. Of course, we're also a bunch of heretics, so your mileage may vary.
We even have a statement on a couple of things that most churches simply don't acknowledge. You can read that at my blog.
I met El Ministro on Live Journal, and that's how I ended up over here. I enjoyed your post on the Episcopals. I grew up Roman Catholic myself, and I know how the ritual can get into your soul.

I'm attracted to pomp and circumstance--but liberalism and ritual very rarely seem to go hand in hand.
