Today I got up and didn't move from my bed, just stayed there and read a little, until el ministro came back in and snuggled up next to me and I drifted back to sleep.
When I woke up he came in full of energy, ready to go--we were going to go look at leaves upstate (I think it's upstate, at least), so we out and got yummy bagel sanwiches and took off to drive around the state. We didn't have a plan or a destination--just to go and see the prettiness, together.
So we wandered about--he found Wait Wait Don't Tell Me on NPR for me, because he knows I love it, and we drove around and saw trees in green and red, purple, yellow, orange--all the colors of fall in a virtual (and sometimes actual) forest.
We stopped to snuggle by a lake, then found a little diner and I had my much-anticipated mug of hot chocolate with lots of whipped cream.
Through el ministro's brilliant navigation, we got back to New York along another amazingly beautiful parkway, and I drifted off to sleep.
I woke up to the pink sky and clouds over the skyline and the slight cleanliness that follows a good rainstorm.
We got home to the promise of pumpkin carving, which I have been anticipating all week. El ministro brought back big lovely pumpkins from his trip to New Jersey and they've been sitting on the table, waiting eagerly to be disemboweled.
Our friend the vulture came over to carve pumpkins with us. In a fit of bravery, I designed my own pumpkin and created a sunset over the sea. I think it came out pretty well. El ministro got into the spirit and carved a face on the other side of the pumpkin. I think it's really cute. The vulture made a New York Mets pumpkin and took it home with him--it will make a great decoration on his stoop, at least until some Yankees fan destroys it.
I love days like today. I love that el ministro will do things with me, like carving pumpkins, just because he knows that I love it. I'm a happy girl.
