The Miracle of the Passive Voice
Alicia says "The keys to the van were lost at the Lexington Reservoir this morning."
What that means, of course, is that I lost them, somehow, between the lake and the van. But it's so nice of her to say it this way. All the kids, of course, said "Are you in trouble Ms. West?" Actually, no, I didn't get in trouble; I got complimented for handling the situation in a calm manner, getting the kids and myself back to school mostly on time. It's nice to be a grown-up. And it's really nice to be calm enough to deal with these things without freaking out. I guess I am getting better.
