Some thoughts:
I had a wonderful weekend, both hanging out with my family and with
duchessofpower, frequently in conjunction. I went for a long walk with my Dad, went shopping with my Mom, and actually didn't see Baby Brother John much, which is ok, since he's supposedly coming down here on Wednesday. I, however, did not get any work done, though I am caught up now. I, in a moment of both massive absurdity and delirious joy, went to check the mail at home on Friday afternoon, and saw a letter addressed to me, from the UVA English department. I open it to find a letter informing me that I have won a merit scholarship that is worth almost half of next year's tuition. I start bouncing around hysterically and giggling, at which point my dad reads the letter and proceeds to tell every single person he sees in the neighborhood who will stand still for long enough. This was embarrassing.
Now I am home, and in my raving and "bizarre" attempts to distract
of_polyhymnia from recital nerves, and also in my general complete insanity, I composed a sonata for alto, digeridoo, and high-pitched wailing. Expect audio clips in the future...we can't record the whole thing at once because we crack up laughing after approximately the first note, but we may record each part seperately and mix them on the computer. It's pretty brilliant. If you like John Cage. I think I have a real career as a postmodern composer ahead of me.
