Would you brave the weird and haunted shores at world's end?

My thoughts on the PotC: At World's End trailer: OMGSQUEE! Pirates!!!

I'm really into movie trailers. I think they're pretty much an art form, and can be evaluated as such apart from the relative merits of their movie (for instance, that Keisha Castle-Hughes Nativity Story thing, which from what I hear was a fairly mediocre movie, had an incredible trailer that was way worthy of much praise- I just wanted to watch it, over and over.

This trailer is, likewise, extremely well-crafted. I have very little to say that wouldn't be rehashing everyone else's comments on the main points- though, actually, ok, I will rehash one thing- they are REALLY milking the "tie up Orlando Bloom, preferably at least half naked" imagery, aren't they? But me saying "Ooh...pretty swordfights; pretty costumes; pretty Johnny Depp" would, I think, be overkill.

So, because I really didn't want to write my paper on Utopia (which I did finish, by the way), I watched the trailer. Frame by frame. And I came across some really funny (and also well-crafted) bits.

The frames in which Elizabeth and Barbossa catch swords thrown at them from under the floorboards: I am extremely interested to find out why Keira Knightley is wearing what is either a mini-dress, bathrobe, or inapproprately short tunic. I am also interested in why Orlando Bloom is tied up in the background. And who, precisely, the mostly-naked men (also in the background) are.

My favorite frame is the very brielf shot of the East India Trading Co. flag on fire. Beautiful cinematography, and beautiful symbolism. Just my thing.

I'm curious about the weird negative shot of Elizabeth (immediately after Beckett says "All of you will die"). I'm calling a character death mislead.

At any rate, pirates and swordfights and Johnny Depp really brighten up an otherwise largely boring and stressful day. So it's all good.
