This would be the Transnational Texts and Gender class, not the Shakespeare one (though in Shakespeare today she lectured on a reading of Hamlet that I'd actually never heard before, which was really cool).
Anyway, we discussed a bunch of things- the first of which was how to write good papers. Now, I've been taking advanced English classes for a long, long time now. And generally, you can get by with an A using the most standard, formulaic essay techniques ever. My Professor told us not to do that. She suggested things to do instead. She gave a a B+, and a solid page of concrit. This is largely unprecedented, and much, much appreciated- because a lot of the time I know I'm writing absolute crap and gettings As for it anyway. It seriously impresses me when teachers don't put up with that.
Then we discussed Jane Eyre...in terms of common tropes in S&M erotica novels. And then we discussed Jane Eyre...in terms of Buffy.
By this point, my eternal adoration and worship of my professor was cemented. Because at one of the many times in English when my brain is going "heehee...that's like Buffy," she said, "You know, it's like Buffy...."
Anyway, it's been a good day. :-D
