I don't suppose anyone out there knows whether Lord Peter Wimsey went to prep school, do they? There might be something in the Paul Delagardie biographical essay somewhere, only I don't have a copy of it handy
( Read more... )
"Peter, I am glad to say, takes after his mother and me. True, he is all nerves and nose - but that is better than being all brawn and no brains like his father and brother, or a mere bundle of emotions, like Gerald's boy, St. George. He has at least inherited the Delgardie brains, as a safeguard to the unfortunate Wimsey temperament

Right ho, thanks :D I was just wondering if there were any indication about whether he went to prep school or had a tutor at home, but I think if there's no further evidence, I'm free to bung in what is necessary for plot-related purposes...
Also, having read 'The Hill: A Romance of Friendship', I can't help but start conflating Peter's school days with those of a character in 'The Hill' who is early nick-named 'Fluff' because of his slightness, and who also turns out to be a good natural cricketer. It sort of makes me wonder if Sayers had read the book ^_^
I may be reading in, but the way the bit about his schooldays is arranged makes it sound to me like he went to prep school, had a rather miserable time of it, got to Eton, and got rescued by his talent for cricket.
On the other hand, the earlier stuff about how he was rather sickly and clingy could also support private tutors. Honestly, I'd say read it whichever way fits the fic. ^_^
My good friend wellinghall will check his shelves this evening to see if there are any other leads, he says (as you may have seen).
This isn't the obvious place to relate that Big Finish have cast Sam West as Morbius in a forthcoming Doctor Who CD, but I thought that the news might entertain.
I didn't mean to provoke such an extreme reaction... ;)
Apparently Nick Briggs cast Sam West because he had worked for him at the Sheffield Crucible, and found that West is a "massive Doctor Who fan" who absolutely knew who Morbius was and had no hesitation about playing him...
The story, Vengeance of Morbius, is scheduled for August, DWM says.
