Welcome to Edensphere, Ember! I'm Kagerou, and it's nice to meet you.

You can use the coins to trade for things you need--food, clothes and so on. They're used so that everything can have a value measured in them, so it makes trading easier?

And same stuff as the floor? Do you mean wood?

It's nice to meet you too, Kagerou. [her name is slowly written, making sure he's spelling it right]

So you trade them for stuff? Then the other people trade them for other stuff?

What's wood?

Yes, that's exactly the idea. You give them to people in exchange for some kind of service or useful things, and they... Yes.

Wood is [pause] dead trees, the substance that's the tree's trunk and branches while it's alive.

You've never seen wood before?

They're kinda like IOUs or something, huh? Only not limited to one person.

Dead trees? Who is What is a tree anyway?

I've seen it... I guess. Lots of places around here are made of it. [slightly confused if he's supposed to know if he's seen wood before.]

IOUs? Oh. Well, you could say that. They're a standard for deciding how valuable something is, and then they're used to trade things. It's more convenient than always having to trade one thing for another.

Have you been outside the temporary housing yet? The big thing we all live in is a tree, and you can see normal-sized trees down in the City Without Walls.

They sound pretty useful! Good thing I didn't toss them out.

You mean the big thing we're standing on is a tree? Whoa. What does it eat? It's so big.

Oh, definitely hang on to them! You're given enough to survive for a few weeks, but you'll have to find work to earn more. [She's suddenly a little dubious of this prospect.]

Yes, it is. It doesn't really eat--it's alive, but it uses sunlight and water, not food like people or animals.

I'll have to do something so people will give me their coins, right? I guess that makes sense. [unsure what he would do to get more... He doesn't think he can cook.]

It must eat something. It's so big and not dead.

Yes, like Stellaris said. You earn money by working.

It does! It gets nourishment from the sunlight. [Will explain photosynthesis later, yes.] I just meant it doesn't eat the same way as we do.

I guess that's what I'll have to do, huh.

So it-- [slight jerk of his pen remembering the woman's talk about lotus flowers from his dream] 's like a flower?

Exactly like a flower. They're both plants, after all.

Well, you'll have a while to figure out what you'd like to do to work, but yes. That's generally how it goes.
