Yay- finally some rain here, and how. It's dry as a bone and has been since we moved here- I think it's only rained a couple of times since we moved here, and very little at that. We got a nice, long-lasting, cold downpour this evening, and it is supposed to rain all day tomorrow. It'll take that long to actually get the rain to soak into the ground and not just run off. With the rain has come a delightful cold front. Cold-weather clothing, here I come!
The red car started wigging out on me earlier in the week- would stall if I pressed the accelerator with any meaning at all. Took it in to be looked at and was very proud of myself and my scant car knowledge- I correctly called out the fuel pump as the problem child. Thank goodness for a warranty which completely covered the cost of parts and labor. Not-so thank goodness that it was time for our "mandatory" (under our warranty) maintenance, which included changing the timing belt and some other belts which were reportedly cracked and dry-rotted. We didn't get away as well as we thought we would, but were thankful that we didn't have to pay for the fuel pump AND timing belt. Small favors.
Got a few things accomplished this weekend. Had John's colleague Joy and her hubby Brian over on Friday for dinner and had a nice chat with them. Saturday morning we went to Ikea and got a chair we needed for our new little desk, as well as some shelving to help organize the pantry closet, and some lighting for the underside of the cabinets. My kitchen is finally the way I want it, and it's very pleasing to work in. I have ample counter space with ready and organized access to my tools and ingredients, and I like the new lighting we put it- it's softer than the overhead fluorescent lighting and much more cozy. Yesterday evening, we watched Marshall almost lose to a not-very-good Ohio University team, and then watched WVU lose to LSU. A "stressful" night of college football in our house.
This morning, we went to the 9:30 church service, ate lunch at Cici's pizza, then went to the mall to start Christmas shopping. I need to go to another mall. We've been to this one before, and it just isn't my style- too upscale. The clothing stores are all much more expensive than I'm interested in, and really the only non-clothing stores I have much interest in there are Brookstone and Harry & David. Occasionally (i.e.- every 6 months or so) I'll hit up The Body Shop for a particular moisturizer that helps with my acne, but that's about it. It will become MORE useful in October, however, because they will open up a Target store, and it will be MUCH closer than the other Target in town. After we got back, I started unpacking my collectible stuff to put out in the guest bedroom. John put up the shelves I'd purchased for my Barbie dolls, then we realized we didn't have nearly enough space. Another trip to Ikea will be in order soon for more shelving. I made a big dent in that and got some boxes out of the way, as well as organizing the medicine shelf and throwing away a ridiculous amount of expired meds. Did some cleaning of my bathroom too, then made an unfortunate recipe for dinner using chicken, pesto and spinach. Wasn't yummy. Dinner was saved by a loaf of fresh banana bread with coffee for dessert, while we watched part of a BBC version of Jane Eyre.
Off tomorrow, and after spin class in the morning, I'm not sure what I'll do. Maybe some cooking, maybe do a seasonal closet-cleaning out. Some laundry is in order, and I have some mending I've been meaning to do and just not getting around to. We'll see where my mood takes me.
