Okay, I know I haven't worked on the meme in a while and I'm gonna start it again soon. But I also want to focus on other stuff. As myprofile says, I'm an amature animation historian, meaning as most historians do I try to study the history of animation. (I was just watching few cartoons on the internet on some Disney cartoons I used to watch all the time and it makes me wonder, what the heck happened to good entertainment?
Artound the mid-2000's I began to see the original heart and comedic genius in animation slip away and see more gross potty humor and more focus on visual gags. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing but it's gone overboard. Shows like The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack and Fanboy and Chum Chum made absolutely no sense and I thought they were more creepy then funny. Also shows I used to like such as The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and Spongebob Squarepants became WAY to gross and bizarre for me to watch. (though Spongebob has been given a second chance since)
As a kid I grew up on shows such as Ducktales and Rugrats which I loved. It has both visual humor, spoken humor, and it still had it's heart-warming moments. Heck they could even teach stuff to people in a way that doesn't make me think that the creators thought that kids were dumb! Sadly not many cartoons do so today. A few new cartoons do so such as Wild Kratts and Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated so and after I saw the new Winnie the Pooh movie, it looks like cartoons may go back to being good. But it'll never have the same spirit that the 90's had IMO.
Anyways, sorry about the ranting. After watching the vids I just really wanted to express my feelings here and you can agree or disagree with me all you want, I'm just voicing my opinion. Next post I'll begin the meme again and in the future I may do more (and hopefully better) cartoon analysis, heck I may do kid show analysis as well because PBS has lost it since I was younger. Well as a wise pig once said, that's all folks!
