PBS Kids: Then and Now

Okay. now I was hesitant on doing this but after checking my area's schedule to check on Wild Kratts, I found out that my area is taking both it and the whole PBS Kids GO! block. My feelings about this can only be described is disappointment, not only because the only show I like on there is gone, but to see just how bad PBS (or my area anyways) has become. So folks, today I will be talking about PBS Kids from the 90's to now, be warned that IO may rant some.

Now back when I was  a little girl in the 90's, PBS Kids was one of my favorite stations to watch. I grew up on little kid shows such as Sesame Street, Barney, and The Puzzle Place which I grew to love. As I got older I grew to love other  shows such as Wishbone, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, Kratts' Creatures, Zoboomafoo, Bill Nye, Thomas the Tank Engine, Arthur, Cyberchase, Zoom, Sagwa the Chinese Siamese Cat, and a whole lot more that I can't remember. I would always watch it before school and after school until the normal PBS started it's shows. It was a great channel filled with great shows that were not only fun, but also educational. I learned a lot form those shows, I passed Math class because of Cyberchase and I learned to love reading form Wishbone.

I quit watching PBS Kids as I got older because I out-grew a lot of those shows and some such as Zoboomafoo and WitWiCS were long gone by then. Of course when I went to my babysitter's house, I did have to watch some of Sesame Street and Barney, but I still liked those shows so I was fine with it. I did watch some of FETCH! With Ruff Ruffman which was actually a pretty good show, but I only watched it on occasion. By the time I was in high school, PBS Kids was a thing of the past to me, thuh I do admit to watching a few Sesame Street clips due to being a Muppets fan.

Now fast-forward to last year when I discovered Wild Kratts, that got me watching PBS Kids again as I'd out in on there to wait for the show to start. I got a chance to look at a couple of shows which were okay, but it just didn't have that feel that it had when I was a kid, but that could very well be because I out-grew most of that stuff. Wild Kratts had that feel I wanted, but it had the Kratt Bros in it so that's probably why. Really it isn;t so much the programming that has made me disappointing in PBS Kids, it's the schedule that annoys me. I know that different areas schedules are different, but my area in recent years has fallen apart. They air Sesame Street before most kids are up, Wild Kratts airs when the kids are at school (though it's supposed to be part of the afternoon block), and now my area is getting rid of all it's afternoon shows except Arthur. I am just dissapointed because I know those shows are very successful, now just WIld Kratts but also FETCH and WordGirl.

This is really aimed at my local PBS station, but PBS what has happened to you?
