Summary: "Did someone break your heart inside? You're in ruins."
It gets easier after awhile. Lying to yourself. Pretending you’re okay. Pretending you’re not broken. That’s what you told her isn’t it? That’s what you made her believe. That’s why things ended. Because if you’d given her a reason. Something that she could try to help you fix she would’ve worked through it with you. She would’ve stood by your side for as long as you needed. But telling her, simply, that you just didn’t want kids it killed her hope. How could she fix that. How could she even understand.
In those few seconds that she looked at you. Pleading for answers and begging you to fix it since you wouldn’t let her. Begging for you tell her where you both were going. Those few earth shattering seconds - they broke you. They broke you because you knew what you had to do to keep her whole. You wouldn’t be with her but she’d have her dream. A dream that you couldn’t keep her from living.
Now you’re broken. When you can only catch fleeting glances of her as she rounds the corner. Or you exchange polite smiles as you pass each other in the hall. Now when you no longer have the right to pull her close and kiss her until your world stills and the only thing that matters is her soul and yours. It breaks you.
It’s ironic really because you fix people. But your own cracks your own wounds you’re not sure they’ll ever heal. Because the only person who had the power to do that - to fix you - you let her go.
You let her go because you wanted her to be whole. You didn’t want her to give up that piece of herself.
So now you’re broken. You’re cracked and marred and it gets a little harder everyday to smile and pretend you’re not. But you take a deep breath exhale slowly and face forward. You remember why you did it. It’s amazingly simply, perfectly honest and wonderfully heartbreaking.
You love her.
