I know you have a little life in you yet. I know you have a lot of strength left.

Also, I though it was really sweet that Kyouhei knows her skull is named John, and so when she's freaking about having been kissed by the "dazzling creature" (hee, that never gets old), instead of saying "bring me a skull" he says "bring me John" and I just really loved that for some reason.
I loved it too! I think that's what's so great about the show -- there's all these little seemingly throwaway moments that are actually quite meaningful when it comes to showing, not telling, how much Sunako and the boys care about each other and how strong the bonds of friendship are between all of them. I adore how even though the boys are wigged out by Sunako's morbidity and are supposed to try and make her into a lady, they really doaccept her for who she is. Perfect case in point is how sympathetic they were to her freak out about missing Halloween; they totally accepted that it was very important to her and it was awesome how they threw her that party. The friendship between Sunako and Noi is really touching too -- Noi is probably the first female friend Sunako has ever had.

The way the boys are drawn in Vampire Knight definitely zings all my fangirl buttons -- skinny with broad shoulders, gorgeous perfect hair, beautiful eyes and poetically thin faces...yum. I especially love Zero's hair and yeah the neck tattoo! I love love triangles so I definitely get where you're coming from...how do you like the character of Yuuki? She seemed kind of vapid and weak from the little I saw of the anime (I haven't really read the manga although I've seen little bits of it and I find it overwhelming in terms of eyecandy -- it's literally chock-full to the brim of lush, gorgeous artwork that I find it difficult to focus because there's too much for me to look at, I do think it would be more effective if the artwork was more streamlined and, for lack of better words, compact and ascetic) so that made it hard for me to get into the love triangle. I generally can't get captivated by a love triangle unless the girl is very kick-ass and *real* otherwise I end up questioning why the guys are so into her. Especially since the reason of 'well, they like her 'cause she's pretty' doesn't usually work in Japanese media since the boys are usually prettier and most of the time more interesting and finely-drawn character-wise.

I've heard good things about Code Geass, I think it was nominated as one of the best animes last year. Cartoon Network is currently airing Code Geass late Saturday nights so I try and catch that after I'm done being bored by Naruto (it just isn't the same without Sasuke and Sakura*sigh*).

It's interesting how you mention the sexy voices in Vampire Knight; I've found, in general with anime, the voice acting is really well-done particularly for male characters (hate some of the squeaky or breathy babyish female voices in shows). And it always seems like the more feminine looking male characters -- the ones with long hair like Takumi in NANA and Azuma Yunoki in La Corda d'Oro -- have the hottest most masculine voices.

One anime I'm really into right now is Shion no Oh (also spelled Shion no Ou), it's a mystery but revolves around shogi (Japanese chess-like game) players. There's one character I absolutely adore named Ayumi Saito; he pretends to be a girl to compete in the amateur female ranks to earn money to pay his mother's medical bills since it takes years to move up in the male ranks. He makes for a pretty girl but after he cuts his hair and reveals himself to be a boy...hello!*g*

I haven't watched any more j-drama yet. I'm just in an anime kind of mood I guess, I want bright colors and impossible prettiness!
Since about 98% of jdramas are adapted from anime/manga, sometimes the live action adaptations pale in comparison in terms of eyecandy value. It's hard to translate the preternatural beauty of the artwork in anime/manga into real human guys -- they end up looking funky and too girly in live action, especially the hairstyles don't translate well and the physicality that is so appealing in anime/manga looks weak and frail when portrayed by jdrama actors, certain young actors are exceptions though!

Dang, we can really write some essays in these comments, can't we?! Hee.

In a word - YES. And don't forget, tall. I love a big height difference. Ahhhhhh, Zero. He's so gorgeous to me, I can't stop reading! It's sick! XD

how do you like the character of Yuuki? She seemed kind of vapid and weak from the little I saw of the anime
Except that she's fiercely protective of Zero, I found her a little "....that's it?" too. I do like that she defied Kaname and broke some major taboos, for him. I just wish she had more personality. There's a Mary Sue-ish thing where her blood is evidently especially delicious to vamps that hasn't been explained, but her past is a mystery, so there may be a reason. Also, other characters are constantly asking what she is to Kaname as well, so the reader isn't alone in wondering what's so special about her...I hope that's leading somewhere too! Eh.

It's interesting how you mention the sexy voices in Vampire Knight
Yeah, they kind of knocked me dead. But I haven't really been blown away by any male voices in anime before, actually. Zero and Kaname - WOW *faints*. I should find out who the voiceactors are and then check out whatever else they've done. And by "should", I mean I WILL, because I am all stalkery like that. Hee!

Cartoon Network is currently airing Code Geass late Saturday nights
Yeah, that's why I started watching it, I heard really good things, like that Lelouch reminded some people of "L" from Death Note or something. So I'm watching the ones I missed via the net and DVRing what's airing on Adult Swim for later. I like it, it's a different "type" than what I've watched so far. Looking forward to comparing the sub to the dub, I'm such a geek about that.

One anime I'm really into right now is Shion no Oh
Sigh. I'll add it to my list.

It's hard to translate the preternatural beauty of the artwork in anime/manga into real human guys
Yeah. Hot as many real guys are, I've already become so spoiled by watching anime. I want everything to look so beautiful. That must be part of what makes anime so addictive!

Hehe, that definitely reminds me of the book 'Twilight' because the female character is a Mary Sue and her blood is apparently, to all the vampires in the book, the most delicious thing EVA.

Zero is voiced by Mamoru Miyano, who is kind of a young superstar seiyu (voice actor). Miyano is best known for being the voice of Light Yagami of Death Note -- Miyano himself is kinda anime; he's really tall and thin and he's young and cute.

Kaname is voiced by Daisuke Kishio -- I'm a big fan of his personally because he's also the voice of Azuma Yunoki from La Corda d'Oro who is one of my favorite animanga characters. :D

Lol, never fear, there are still plenty of very, very beautiful young Japanese actors that could give their anime counterparts a serious run for the money. I think that's why Miura Haruma in the film Koizora (Sky of Love) caused such a sensation. With the white hair and his ridiculous gorgeousness, a lot of the critics who've reviewed the film are like 'he looks just like an anime bishounen. No really, he does.' And Hongo Kanata who plays Shin in the second NANA movie is so perfect as Shin that if I didn't know, I would've thought Ai Yazawa drew Shin based on Hongo.*g*

As usual, you are my insanely helpful encyclopedic resource for fangirl activity. Awesome. *dutifully Googles*

Mamoru Miyano. Gulp. I think he is gorgeous. And I didn't know he voiced Light! I was all excited to watch that in English b/c of the voice actors that have been chosen, but now I'll really have to watch it both ways. And also, he does work in Ouran HSHC which I was also planning on watching. Neat! Yay! Because he is really, really good. I don't think I'd like Zero quite as much if he didn't have that voice.

Daisuke Kishio. Boy I never would have suspected such a dead sexy voice would belong to him, but I am a now a big fan too. VK is lucky to have him, his voice is perfect for Kaname. In fact I think both these guys are better than the actual role.

And Hongo Kanata who plays Shin in the second NANA movie is so perfect as Shin that if I didn't know, I would've thought Ai Yazawa drew Shin based on Hongo.
You're right, his face has the same shape as Shin. (I would know this because I already have a bunch of saved icons of Shin. Ha ha, I'm crazy.) That's kind of amazing. Someday when Netflix quits telling me those movies are a "long fucking wait" I will get to see them.

Is there no word for "vampire" in Japanese? Because they're using the English word, and it's like, really freaking HOT to hear how they say it. Typical I know, but I love an accent.

My pleasure, really! My growing love for anime is still kind of my fun dirty little secret. I doubt my work friends would understand because I think most of them think Anime = Hentai. My sister is useless to squee with as well because, while she loves a lot of the live action adaptations, she is allergic to anything non live action. She could barely sit through an episode of NANA which I personally think is one of the best animes out there.

Yup, I was surprised about Miyano as well when I first saw him. He's pretty good looking and I had to realign my preconceived notions because unlike in Hollywood, voice actors in Japan don't do it because they have trouble finding on camera work and some of the top Japanese voice actors are considered and treated like superstars. Ouran HSHC is a trip! I haven't watched all of it (I found it bordering on a little too silly for my tastes) but there are these identical twins in the host club that crack my shit up -- their whole hosting schtick (because incest makes the girls swoon, dontcha know?) is pretending that they're in love with each other.

Kind verging off-topic but Ouran HSHC would be an interesting subject for a meta-theory paper about how, for being such a closed and essentially isolationist society, the Japanese are remarkably open in their media about deviant sexual proclivities almost to the point of somewhat normalizing them, especially, as in the particular case of Ouran, portraying the sexual proclivities of young Japanese women since the host club is geared to the girls at the school and female viewers. I mean, in Ouran you've got the fake twincest vibes of the Hitachiin twins and the softcore shotacon (sexualization of very young looking boys) shtick of Hani (Honey) who is a teenager like the other boys but carries around stuffed animals and looks like he's about six. Not to mention the Orlando character of the main female Haruhi who disguises herself as a boy and who a lot of the girls that frequent the host club are totally panty-twisting in love with.

(I would know this because I already have a bunch of saved icons of Shin. Ha ha, I'm crazy.)
That's pretty awesome! Not gonna judge because I freaking adore Shin and Hongo Kanata. There's the youtube video of him dressed up like Shin and his voice is disturbingly hot -- never knew such a deep masculine sexy voice could come out of that sweetheart-faced seventeen year old boy. I'm, apparently, warped.*g*

There must be a Japanese word (probably about 5 words because the motto for the Japanese language should be: Why say what you need to say in one word when you can say it in fifteen?) for 'vampire,' but I have no idea what it is. I like the way they say 'vampire,' too -- they're all 'vahmpyaaarh.' Haha.

Ugh, I'm nuts, I've been spending way too much time tonight reading fan boards about Miura Haruma (dude, he's only eighteen, it's sick) and fangirling him. My sister and I are convinced he's our long lost Japanese cousin because he looks just like pictures we've seen of our uncles on our mom's side when they were around his age. And he looks like our oldest boy cousin. Needless to say, we ADORE him.

Ha ha, mine too. It's more fun that way anyway.

I've noticed the entertainment industry seems to be less stringently divided over there. I'm thinking of how many print adds, commercials, and video game voiceovers Takeshi does, and it doesn't affect his movie star status at all. That kind of career freedom and fluidity must be nice.

I think that would actually be an AWESOME paper topic! Certainly a fun one. I almost wish I was still in school.

I like the way they say 'vampire,' too -- they're all 'vahmpyaaarh.' Haha.
How much do I love that you spelled it out. XD

Yeah you WISH. Too funny.
