I must have lost my mind.

I went to Fred Segal Santa Monica today to check out the annual big blow-out sale. I found a gorgeous tweed Sass & Bide vest with chocolate brown velvet piping for $100 (original price $500) that would have looked fabulous underneath one of my work suits, but I couldn't make myself buy it. It was just too expensive for one article of clothing even though it's not expensive at all for Sass & Bide, which is a label I adore. I just couldn't justify the purchase to myself.*sigh* I'm already regretting not buying it, though. Well, my loss is another size 1 woman's gain, I suppose.*double sigh*

Other than that, I didn't see anything worth buying there except for a very pretty peach w/ pale blue lace overlay flapper-ish dress by Peter Som. But it was $200 (originally priced at $1,000) and not very practical--I wouldn't have gotten much wear out of it since it is a party dress and thus, not appropriate for work. I also saw a beautiful pair of cream leather dress shoes with buttery brown accents by Proenza Schouler (another label I love) that were just a wee bit too large and of course, a wee bit too expensive. So cute, though.

My shopping trip wasn't a total loss and I cheered myself up with a few less expensive but nevertheless very cute purchases:

~ Black belted shirtdress with a lovely flared skirt--very glamorous and 1950s throwback chic, like something Grace Kelly would wear. I'll wear this tomorrow to work with my black and red patent leather d'Orsay high heels.

~ Black pencil skirt with the cutest slash pockets. I am totally enamoured of very slim-fitting dressy skirts with pockets--there's just something so effortlessly cool about slipping one hand into the pocket of a pencil skirt while waiting to cross the street, like that iconic pose Coco Chanel was always photographed in, body elegantly curved, one hand casually slipped into a pocket.

~ Sheer silk black blouse with white accent trim. I can't describe in words how classically stylish this blouse is.

~ Greyish wash slim legged jeans. I like how loooong they make my legs look.

~ Eggplant colored long sweater with sweetheart puffed sleeves and a high neck. What really made me buy this sweater was the beautiful pearly purple buttons on the back of the neck; so pretty and such a lovely feminine touch at just the right place--the nape of the neck.

So, actually, it was not a bad haul, shopping-wise.

Since I've gotten some emails and comments recently about it...

No, I haven't abandoned Complicity or Good Woman | Good Man. I'm still working on both, albeit more sporadically. My new job has been keeping me really busy, but I'm looking forward to settling down in that and refocusing more energy on my writing. To those still following my WiPs, thanks for your continued interest and stay tuned. :)

And in one cheery final note: Not doing too great health-wise all of a sudden. I woke up this morning with a sore throat and it has progressed to the point where I have almost completely lost my voice and what remains of it is a scratchy whisper. This should make work very interesting tomorrow./sarcasm
