Both. It was entertaining to a limited degree, but left a very bad taste in my mouth. Maybe it just came uncomfortably close to some personal crap I've been dealing with. Art imitating life, and all that. Bleh.
JRM does do creepy very well. I didn't like it, though, the storyline was kind of personally upsetting to me. I know it's the point of the film, but I guess I just don't like seeing assholes who are relationships with other women toying around with girls heartlessly. I prefer to see sociopathic users get their just desserts, which they rarely do in life and now not on film either--it's all quite distasteful to me.
*G* What do you think, do I have a future writing one-liner film reviews? Actually, I think that might be kind of cool; people could read reviews that distill in one line whether they should go see a film or not. Watch out, Ebert!
Oh, you'll have to tell me what you think about the film. I'm pretty neutral about Scarlett Jo-however-you-spell-it; I liked her in Lost In Translation fine, but really that film was all about Bill Murray and his performance. Everything else I've seen her in since then (which is, admittedly, little), has left me pretty whatever about her. I find JRM terribly odd; he can be so attractive and so ugly all at once--it's disconcerting and definitely captivating in that sense.
Good call on Gormenghast! I watched that years ago when PBS first aired it and I remember thinking that JRM was a very magnetic young actor who I thought would go far in the industry. Turns out, he has.
