Character Information

General
Canon Source: Nier
Canon Format: Video Game
Character's Name: Yonah
Character's Age: 12 physically, 7 mentally
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played. Yonah is not suited to the setting of Siren's Pull, at least not on her own. She is sick, weak, unable to fight, and needs medical attention which may or may not lead her into turning to SERO or AGI for assistance. If Nier is accepted, she'll end up relying on him for guidance. If he isn't, it is implied that Yonah is still somewhat capable of living on her own (whenever Nier has to be away for a long while), albeit with the added support of people living around her.

What form will your character's NV take? A simple blue diary with intricate borders on each page. The pages are lined for maximum neat handwriting! But there is a special mirror for video/voice function near the front; it turns on when Yonah's reflection shows up. The cover is engraved with the design of a Lunar Tear flower.

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: N/A
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? Yonah's brother does everything in order to support Yonah, while she is stuck at home because of her illness. She thinks that if she could just get better, her brother wouldn't have to suffer for her. She often wishes she could help him, like he's helped her. Because Yonah always wants to give back what her brother has done for her and more, Yonah's dormant ability will be the ability to give some of her life energy to another living being/creature. Basically, she will be able to use her own life to heal another's injuries. However, because Yonah is very weak and ill, use of this ability will worsen her own condition and tire her out quickly. Giving up too much will bring her close to Death's Door. She also cannot revive a person from death with her ability, at least not without giving up her own...
Weapons: N/A

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: (It should be noted that there are two versions of Nier. One features Nier as Yonah's father and one features Nier as Yonah's brother. Essentially that is the only difference between them; everything else (story, basic dialogue) is intact. Since brother!Nier was reserved, this application will refer to Nier as Yonah's brother.

Here is a basic profile for Yonah. I'll elaborate more on her history below, since the link is a little sparse.)

For one thing, this Yonah isn't the real Yonah. The real Yonah was a human girl who accidentally touched the Black Book and became a Gestalt (basically, her soul was ripped from her body). But Yonah in her Gestalt form quickly began to relapse and lose sense of herself. Her brother, Nier, agreed to take part in the Gestalt Project in order to save her. Gestalt Yonah's soul was placed in cryogenic sleep, kept in a near-relapsed state. From her data, Replicant Yonah was born (which is the Yonah in this application) and given an artificial personality. The goal is that one day, Gestalt Yonah's soul will be able to live in Replicant Yonah's body. However, Gestalt Yonah's near-relapsed state guarantees that Yonah's Replicant data will always be corrupted. Replicant Yonah is reborn over and over in the course of over a thousand years, her corrupted data assuring that she will always die from the "Black Scrawl", which while it is called a disease in-game, it is actually the result of her corrupted data source. Over time, Replicant Yonah begins to develop her own personality along with the other Replicants.

Basically Gestalt = the original person, the soul
Replicant = the body that the soul is going to be placed in... until they started to develop their own soul.

Yonah (hereby assumed as Replicant Yonah unless noted) is living with her older brother (Replicant Nier) in their village. Their mother died of the Black Scrawl and it isn't told what happened to their father (because of the alternate dad!Nier timeline). Yonah is Nier's only family. She is sick and often stays home while her brother goes around doing odd jobs for money. However, one day, he tells her of the Lunar Tear flower which can grant any wish to those who find it. Thinking that it can cure her disease, Yonah runs off to an old shrine to find one. If she could cure herself, then her brother wouldn't have to worry anymore. Somehow she is trapped in a magical barrier in the process. Nier rescues her, but discovers that she has developed the Black Scrawl, an incurable disease. Nier finds hope in finding a cure through Grimoire Weiss and collects the Sealed Verses spread throughout the land. The climax of the game features Nier and Yonah's village being attacked by a giant Shade. Yonah is brought to the library for safety, but she is kidnapped by the Shadowlord, who is the Gestalt of Nier. Gestalt Nier, realizing that he was lied to about Gestalt Yonah's recovery, forces Gestalt Yonah into Replicant Yonah's body. Replicant Yonah's consciousness is pushed back in favor of Gestalt Yonah's.

Five years pass... Over time, the Replicant Yonah calls out for her brother, begging to see him. Gestalt Yonah feels sympathy for her. Upon the final battle, Gestalt Yonah tells the Shadowlord to stop what he's doing, because she can feel Replicant Yonah's soul inside of her. It's not right that she can't see her brother, she says. Gestalt Yonah ends up sacrificing herself, leaving the Replicant Yonah's body. Nier defeats the Shadowlord and brings Yonah's consciousness back by recalling memories of the two of them. Yonah wakes up and witnesses the bright, shining sky with her brother.

However, Yonah is still not cured of the Black Scrawl. She is still destined to die eventually.

Point in Canon: Ending A. Gestalt Yonah has left Yonah's body. Nier defeats the Shadowlord and summons Yonah's consciousness back with their shared memories together. Yonah awakens and reunites with her brother after five, long years. They watch the beautiful sky together.
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: N/A

Character Personality:

Since Yonah is still a little girl inside, she is very honest about her feelings. She'll often say exactly what's on her mind without any sort of filter. If she thought something was dumb, she'll say so! If she thinks a story was sad, she'll say so. A lot of Yonah's diary entries reflect her honesty and naivete. One such entry states, "Today Popola sent me a new book about a bit tree. I really hope it has an happy ending. There's nothing worse than a sad tree." Or another entry where her brother came home because it was snowing, saying he'd leave when it stopped; Yonah wrote that she wished it would never stop in that case. It seems silly to worry about such a thing and naive to wish for something like that, but that's the kind of simple honesty that Yonah has. She has a clear idea of what she thinks is right or wrong. Though she can be blunt, she is good at heart. She often worries for her brother and tells him not to overdo it. When she heard Emil was in trouble, she insisted that her brother go and help him right away because he's her friend! And there's nothing worse than a sad tree! She also tends to exaggerate, using words like "totally" or "super" to make it seem bigger than it is. Sometimes she'll complain if she thinks something is unfair, like having to stay home while her brother is gone for a long time. She does try to get her way sometimes ("Come on, please...") and there are moments where she blatantly disobeys or lies to Nier, such as sneaking out of the house to chill at the library. But if she's scolded, she'll behave.

It does get lonely staying by herself though. She is pretty sheltered and so she often loses herself in her magic storybook to indulge in stories of princesses and all. Because of her imagination, strange phenomena such as having enigmatic dreams (at one point) don't particularly phase her. Neither do floating books that talk. Yonah's mind is pretty much open to anything- in fact, she thinks it's pretty cool! And her dreams are wildly imaginative too. Something about her and her brother... a pink cloud.... Crazy stuff like that. But she always has crazy dreams, she says! So it's cool.

Deep down, Yonah just wants to be helpful. She feels totally useless; she isn't blind to how much her brother does in order to support her and often times she resents her illness for causing it. If she wasn't sick, her brother wouldn't have to suffer for her. She knows she is a burden to him, even if he says otherwise. She often expresses that when she thinks of how much he worries for her, it makes her sad because of how he doesn't think of himself. Seeing her brother in pain is much worse than being sick! He always does so much for her... if only she could do something for him too. This desire to help often if not always motivates Yonah's character to do the things she does throughout the game. The things she tries to do range from trying to cook for her brother to trying to find a Lunar Tear in an extremely dangerous place, all of them ending in failure. Why does she go to such lengths? The thing she fears most is being hated or abandoned by her brother because of her disease. She's scared that one day he'll leave her all alone, which is why ultimately she'll obey his requests. She'll take her medicine, even if it tastes terrible. She'll wait at home and stay out of trouble, as long as her brother promises to come back for her. One of her letters (later discarded) shows Yonah in a time of need. She's sick and hurting, but her brother isn't there. She's scared. She expresses that she doesn't need any medicine, she just needs him to be there by her side.

While Yonah is generally cheerful and friendly to everyone in her village, she loves her brother the most out of everyone. She doesn't remember her parents, so her brother is the only family she knows. And since he takes care of her all the time, she's come to rely on him for practically everything. She looks up to him and constantly desires his love and attention. She writes him a letter everyday, exchanged through their own mailbox (meaning he only receives them whenever he comes home from his quests). Whenever she gets a letter back from him, she really wants to be with him, though she knows he's busy all the time. But whenever he does come home, she's overjoyed. She wishes she could be with him all the time. She can bear being stuck at home, as long as he's around. Yonah's whole world revolves around her brother, and vice versa. All that Yonah does is ultimately connected to him, just as all he does is connected to her.

Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: Regardless if Nier applies or not, I plan to have Yonah struggle with her illness, which may cause her to waffle between aligning with SERO or AGI because of what they promise. And once she's settled in, she'd want to explore as much as she can! She usually never leaves her own house, much less her village, so it'll be very new for her. Her own feelings of uselessness will arise in terms of fighting, but her desire to help and her hidden ability may come into play.

Wow... this is really cool... It's like, a real magic storybook. Can you all see me? Can you hear me? My name's Yonah. What's yours? Some nice person found me and told me what happened. I don't really like being kidnapped again, especially so soon after being saved, but at least I have something to do while I wait this time. I mean, it's less boring than being asleep.

[She huffs a little, noticeably annoyed by the situation. Yonah opens her mouth to speak again, but suddenly stops for a moment to cough into her hands. It lasts too long to be a simple disruption. When it finally stops, she stares silently into her palms, a distant expression on her face.

Of course it wouldn't go away. This disease... was still consuming her, but this time she didn't have her brother to help her. Her demeanor visibly falters.]

Um... I'm sorry about that. Hey so... if we were pulled here, do the people around you at the time get pulled too? Like, say if they were standing right next to you? It's really, really important that I know. Because there's somebody I have to find. Somebody precious to me.

Third Person Sample

Yonah felt sick. Not sick from her disease for once. A different kind of sick that made her want to lie down until the world stopped spinning. She slumped down on the baseball mound (Dirt? Wasn't she inside a building just a moment ago?), her head hung low as her head twirled around in circles. Her body physically hurt as well. And the bright, blue sky she'd been looking at with her brother... seemed different somehow. In fact, where was he...?

"Brother?" she uttered, her voice small and weak at first. She clutched her hand close to her chest, fighting back a violent cough. "Where are you?"

He was just here. He was just next to her, wasn't he? Yonah felt panic shoot through her like lightning, springing her to life despite the lingering nausea. She looked around her surroundings with wide, terrified eyes. This place... She didn't know this place. Where was she?

Where was her brother?

"Brother...?!" she shouted this time, coughing shortly afterward. She couldn't see any sign of him, or even of Kainé. Had it just been a dream? That her brother came to save her from the Shadowlord only minutes ago? Her body was cold with dread, chilled to the bone.

"This... This isn't funny! Stop hiding and come out already! I don't wanna play your dumb game!" Yonah cried. No, no, she couldn't be alone. Her brother wouldn't abandon her, would he? Not after rescuing her. Fairy tales never ended like that. Wasn't it supposed to be 'Happily Ever After'? Or maybe he finally got fed up with her. Taking care of her was a burden in the first place. Why would he want to take that burden back? He must've realized it. Yonah felt dizzy with confusion and fear.

What would happen to her now? Would she die here... alone? Her hands were trembling as she gripped at her dress, tears falling generously onto her lap. She didn't even get a chance to repay him.

"I don't want to be alone..."
