im not sure how this was actually done because Banksy painted cows and sheep and put them in a art gallery for five days. they made sure the paint wasnt toxic and they had feed and werent distressed but it was thoroughly checked on by the RSPCA. but that was deemed to be toeing the line.
other people have had animals organs in glass boxes and that was really pushing it.
i dont completely understand installation art but inaminate object SHOULD be used or willing people. i read that he played music backwards and burnt coke and pot as incense in the same room. ...ermm...yes.
the gallery owner said that the dog was only tied up for three hours and was fed, it was the animal activitist that said it died in the gallery. The artist obviously isnt saying which story is correct because the dead dog story gets his name out there. he said it died but where and when? did anyone see the actual dog dead or was it just a myth?
Its interesting that the dog wasnt removed, and the champagne sippers were happy to just watch. Thats the REALLY sick bit. if it was just a hoax sort of thing and these people were told it will die and the did nothing. no one called animal welfare or did anything about it. noone protested about it.
im not defending the guy, theres no way that what he did could be defended, even if he was using a healthy dog that got fed. petting zoos have animals in yards for them to roam. so chaining up a dog on a short leash in a room for people to look at and be distressed about, is inhumane just to start off with.
i know a ultra-realistic looking sculpture/taxidermy of a curled up mangy dog on the leash wouldnt have had the same impact he was looking for but, christ, it would have been so much better.
im still trying to find FACTS not heresay about it.
There were other pictures that show that the dog was clearly emaciated and had sores on his body. That alone is sick enough. Again, this "presentation" was in Central America. (Nicaragua I think)
oh absolutely. he was using a sick dog, that's completely fucked, but i cant find anything that says 'Yes, the dog died in the gallery' that is a neutral source.
