when it's just not long enough to do all the things you want to, I feel. A quick time capsule - I've finished 4 episodes of Robbers, and marvel at how it's managed to keep me guessing on where the characters are going, especially in regards to the secondary guy, and I love that the 'traditional' romance gestures are going on between Heroine's mom and the disreputable mob boss with the appropriate swelling music cues. SO HILARZ. I'll try to make a longer screencap review, but I'm downloading episode 5 right now, so that might be a hint about how I feel about this show - this could be the one kdrama that brings me back into the fold, or a happy accident. Either way, I'm loving it, and I hope for more meta-in-jokes. And even though his character (so far) has been a mostly terrible rogue (OKAY, JACKASS.) the actor's charisma (and appearance of looking like an scruffier, older brother of Hyun Bin) makes me shortlist his previous drama Thank you, and I'm downloading Ruler of Your Own World, so YAY QUALITY KDRAMAS.
On the jdrama front, I've decided I'm going to just watch Ashita no Kita and after watching the first episode last night, Daisuki! (Embarrassing fangirl squee: I kind of always knew, but
YUUTA. HI. ILU.) When the season's over, I might go back and try Binbo Dashi, and Honey & Clover, and The Negotiator, like I did for Galileo last season. With some notable exceptions, I'm going on a JE free sabbatical, because I need a break.
And I've downloaded and watched the first three eps of Atsuhime, and I'm waiting for the english hardsubbed screencaps so I can understand the nuances, but just acting-wise so far, Aoi Miyazaki has been amazing, and the production values are beautiful, and I (as a closet textile fancier) am in SO LOVE with the design and look of the costumes. I have some
screencaps. I can't wait until March, when Maki finally shows up, and presumably with Shota, and AWWW HISTORICAL RELUCTANT ARRANGED MARRIAGE THAT BLOSSOMS INTO LOVE ARC.
<3
I'm kind of on a historical relationships kick, I'm reading about the marriage of Queen Victoria and her consort Albert at the moment.
Oh, and for movies, I watched most of Shun's Crows Zero (See Shun fight. In rain. In slo-mo. With really ...unique hair.), laughed to myself about yet another Hana Kimi alumni I saw (the actor who plays Shun's brother in Hana Kimi is a random bad news bear in CZ), and Meisa Kuroki is in it and she's pretty much just window dressing, but hey, she's not a bad singer (in fact, I like her voice a lot more than some of the recent actresses/singers these days) and of course the pretty is off the charts when she's actually in frame with Shun.
Then I walked/fastforwarded/rewinded Koizora with
kitsune714 and oh my god guys, it is one of those pure love movies that Japan seems to love cranking out every few years or so and in that Nicholas Sparks genre of 'romance' (incidentally with kdrama flourishes) where someone always has to die, and IT IS SO BAD IT IS BRILLIANT. I was laughing so hard. Me and D are going to watch it AGAIN tonight.
I can't wait to watch Virgin Snow and Hula Girls later - a twin pack of Aoi - Miyazaki and Yuu awesomeness.
I also have to do a little write up about my treacherous drive through Los Angeles the day before yesterday, in pouring rain (it reminded me of Scotland, except in Scotland, especially up in the highlands, the rain comes at you horizontally) and going to the MoCA to see the Murakami exhibit and escaping so many near-collisions and fatal car-death and Little Tokyo and ...well, I need to leave so I can go to the art store and Kinokuniya and catch Atonement (I have a free ticket I'm redeeming!) and possibly the Air I Breathe.
The day is just packed. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
