Things that have made me happy today: Finding out that Miyavi and his wife named their daughter Lovelie Miyavi Ishihara. ONLY YOU, MIYAVI. Anyway, the kanji/reasoning behind the name is awesome.
I spent all day with the BFF - she drove us to Woodstock (yes, that Woodstock)and I didn't have to wait for ANYTHING or worry that I was holding anyone up or get lost. I found and bought a Nobuta pig (a chanchitos!) and two beautiful handcrafted rings - one made of wire and beads, the other a silver with a blue goldstone, wandered in and out of several tea stores - the BFF & her mother bought CHOCOLATE MINT TEA that we're going to try out tonight, to go with the cookies I'm baking- butterscotch and chocolate chip cookies, I took a few pictures, not all of them of food, and I got to pick up and touch a Cindy Sherman photo catalogue in a used book store, though I didn't buy it, as it was 130 dollars. Oh, and I bought some possible stocking stuffers for later, though I'm pretty tempted to keep my treasures myself.
And, BFF's mom treated us to a delicious brunch and dinner. Brunch was at Joshua's in Woodstock, they specialize in healthy food without having to go the wheatgrass and pita chips route. One of the waitresses had a slight tinge of lime green in her closely cropped hair. Dinner was back in Albany, at Emperor's, a Chinese restaurant. We took home tons of leftovers. I'm fit to burst, and yet --- COOKIES.
and what else makes me happy? This picspam. FList, what do you get when you get two ridiculously beautiful girls who also happen to be best friends and work in the same industry, indeed, for the same talent agency?
ETA: still resizing the pics as I go, the netbook is kind of not handy for this kind of endeavor.
Maki Horikita (real name: Marina Hara) and Meisa Kuroki (real name: Satsuki Shimabukuro) were both scouted by Sweet Power around the same time and made their professional debuts around 14/15. The legends behind their scouting go as follows: Maki was scouted at school - during her extracurricular events and/or according to the story she told on 5LDK, a scout had been informed about a pretty girl who lived in the neighborhood and had tracked Maki down. Maki turned down Sweet Power at first until she discussed it further with her parents, and it was her mother's encouragement that finally made her decide to join Sweet Power.
Meisa's scouting, either involved a scout seeing footage of Meisa during her Okinawa Actor School days, when she was part of a teen pop group BB WAVES, or a scout noticing Meisa's older sister (she has three) and then seeing a purikura sticker of Meisa and enquiring about the littlest Shimabukuro. Meisa also trained with a theater troupe at 14 and her performance debut was on stage.
Maki and Meisa lived together as room/dormmates at the Sweet Power dormitories for about a year, and they also attended the same private all girls high school (which incidentally, other Sweet Power girls attended/are attending now).
Maki went into gravure idoling work, and CMs and the occasional acting job, while Meisa worked with the theatrical troupe and concentrated on modeling, becoming a contract model for JJ, and ANS 25, with a few appearances in doramas.
Maki and Meisa have worked together multiple times in doramas/SPs and films, and memorably starred together in a photobook, MISS MATCH, which took a hypothetical day in their life - from morning to night, cherry blossoms at school, a swimming pool, a gym, Tokyo Tower, the streets of Shibuya - chronicling a friendship with yurilicious undertones.
Meisa has referred to Maki as one of the few people her age that she can talk to about both professional and private things. They also share a manager.
During Maki's stint as a radio host for TOKYO FM's Girl's Locks, she would play Meisa's songs, and their staff blogs mention how fond they are of each other and how it's nice for them to meet up after their hectic schedules. Meisa made a special appearance at Maki's 19th birthday party.
They are so BFF it's beyond doubt - and if you haven't seen their short film Kimi no Yubisaki, it practically screams HI THIS IS THE CANON OF OUR AWESOMENESS TOGETHER.
and lest we forget - both of them are heart stopping, jaw dropping, gorgeous gorgeous people.
I don't play that game of who's hotter or more beautiful or more talented or any of that lameass (NO FUN) fangirl bitchiness that's so popular, because in my mind, they're both SUPER AWESOME. One's awesomeness is not diminished by the other's. And really, their chemistry TOGETHER outshines a lot of the chemistry they've had with their male co-stars. BFFs, man.
you're welcome.
