it's simpler in moonlightcalledinvainJune 21 2009, 07:49:56 UTC
It's been five months since they kissed, and Sho still thinks about it, especially at night when the stars are out.
Call it instinct, call it hope - the moonlight and the stars had all conspired - or was it inspired him to do the one thing he never thought he would, and now he was wondering when he was going to do it again.
Even after the real truth comes out, Sho finds himself drawn to Chisato, like she's even more a part of him than he realized. He's aware of her hands, the soft tousled hair she wakes up in the morning with, the sharp tilt of her chin, and how she always seems to be smiling. Chisato is prettiest when she smiles, he told her once, and he's pleased to see her following his advice.
Before, he took every casual gesture for granted - when he brushed against her shoulder, or held her by the elbow so she wouldn't break her hand against Fuu's face, that every touch was simple and thoughtless.
Now that he's in love, now that he knows he is, he's much more careful. He doesn't know if Chisato has ever been in love, or ever looked at another person like he looks at her -and he wants everything to be perfect.
Sho doesn't want to lie when he's with her - charm and telling women what they want to hear is what he does during his evenings. When it's daylight, he spends his time teasing and arguing with her, making her laugh.
Slow and steady, that's the key, he thinks, all too mindful that if he slipped up, Masaru or Satoru would be more than happy to step in.
He's helping her make lunch one day, when Chisato accidentally touches the edge of a boiling pan. Sho turns immediately when he hears her little exclamation of pain, and before she can say anything, quickly lifts her fingers to his mouth, blowing gently against them.
Chisato's eyes widen, and then she blushes. "Does it still hurt?" Sho asks, not taking his eyes off of her. She shakes her head mutely, but she hasn't pulled away.
He guides her to the sink, and turns on the tap, letting the cold water splash over their clasped hands. It's the closest he's been to her since that kiss, and by the way Chisato's suddenly tensed in his arms, he knows she's remembering it too.
"Hey, it's okay. I'm just making sure you're not hurt," he says quietly.
"I know that," Chisato says, a little too loudly. "I'm fine, thank you."
She wiggles her hand free and turns off the water.
Sho steps back and lets her go, but not before he calls out, "What are you so afraid of?"
Chisato's shoulders stiffen, but she doesn't reply.
The curry is burnt and singed around the edges when he finally remembers to check the pan.
Chisato doesn't come out for the rest of the day, and he figures they're back to where they're started, which is a whole lot of nothing and disturbing, sticky late night dreams.
He's always been a light sleeper - ever since the orphanage, he was always looking forward to the next morning, to the promise that someday, he would belong to someone. So when there's a knock on his door at 2 in the morning, he's up and out of his bed.
Chisato is on the other side of the door, and her alarmed expression reminds him he's half naked. "Sorry, I'll just put on my shirt, wait one second," and he reaches for the closest shirt he can find.
It's only when he's facing her again when he realizes he's put it on inside out and she hides her smile behind her hand. "So, what brings you here?"
Chisato looks at him, and exhales. "I'm not afraid of you," she says clearly. "I'm just not sure what you want."
"I see," Sho says. He taps his chin and then says, "Well, I'd really like to kiss you again."
"I'm not joking about this," she says, and Sho leans down so he can look into her eyes. "Neither am I. Come here," and he pulls her toward him. Chisato's too surprised to resist.
"Now, close your eyes," Sho says. When he's satisfied that she has, Sho slides his hands down her arms until he's reached her wrists, and he wraps his fingers around them briefly, before moving on to her fingers. His fingers thread with hers, and he walks Chisato further into his room.
Her hands were trembling in his grip, and he reassures her, "I'm not going to do anything you don't want me to."
Re: it's simpler in moonlightcalledinvainJune 21 2009, 08:03:25 UTC
She smiles a little, and then squeaks, because Sho's reached his bed, and the mattress creaks when he eases himself onto it. "No, keep your eyes closed," he says quickly, and Chisato frowns. "I didn't come here to sleep with you, I hope you know that."
"I know that," Sho retorts. "Come on, we haven't even gone on a date yet, I'm not that kind of guy."
"Oh," Chisato says. "Well, okay then."
"I could always break the rules for you, though," Sho says cheerfully. "Kidding, kidding."
When he's sure she's not going to bolt, he releases her left hand. Then he slides his ring off his thumb, and slips it onto hers. Chisato's eyes immediately open and she looks down at her hand and then at Sho.
He flicks her nose. "Consider this a promise."
"It's a little loose," she says doubtfully, and plays with the ring.
"Well, one day, I'll buy you another one that fits," Sho says slowly. "But you can't take this one off until then."
"Is that so," Chisato murmurs.
Sho nods. "Oh yes. This time I'm going to do it in the right order."

omg omg omg i'm trying hard not to flail here coz my mom is just in the next room she might think im mad.LOL
this is sooooooooooo sweet and it is actually possible to happen - maybe not in the drama- but in a fangirl's dreams. well, we're free to dream and imagine this, right?
and the last few lines that sho said after he gave her the ring were sweet. it's like...proposal then marriage first before sex. kyaaaaaa. sho ur too sexy to be ignored.
i need more flirting and eye sex!haha. give it to us, ep11!
aw, you're so cutecalledinvainJune 22 2009, 06:23:36 UTC
dreams and stars are free, as Chisato says. ;)
I like the romance in things that aren't said but implied - I mean, of course I love confessions of love, but I'm always looking out for ways of writing them that don't necessarily need the big grand I love you. Though sometimes the occasion calls for it. In this case, I wanted to convey Sho's actions speaking louder than words though.
I hope for more flirting in episode 11 as well, but right now I'm just pleased that the family is all together again.
Re: aw, you're so cutesweetieyukinaJune 22 2009, 07:29:24 UTC
actually, i've always firmly believed that words with no actions are meaningless, but actions with no words are frustrating.
while i give kudos to sho for obviously being in love with chisato and showing it to her, it's frustrating that other people are aware of sho's feelings (takeru and fuu, for example) but chisato doesnt because sho always denies it.
sometimes, for someone as dense as chisato, all it needs is that one extra push or maybe a SHOVE on sho to say it out that he is in love with her.haha. otherwise, chisato will just think that sho's gestures are that of a friendly kindness and keep misunderstanding how he realy feels.
here we have a man who's clearly in love but wont tell the woman.hahaha. it's kinda frustrating.
Re: it's simpler in moonlightuiscerosJune 21 2009, 14:28:28 UTC
Wow, just.... wow. That was amazing. AMAZING. So beautiful, and meaningful, and just squeeeeeee.
Anyway, the characters were perfect. Sho particularly was beautifully in character. He was serious, but then joking, and it was just great, and perfect, and Sho.
I love how Sho wants to do things right with Chisato, because he actually loves and respects her.
OMG man, that fic was just amazing. I love it so so so so so much. Perfect thing to wake up to :D
Re: it's simpler in moonlightlastingdreams8June 21 2009, 22:39:26 UTC
IT'S AMAZING! It melts my heart reading this:D You have perfect characterization down to the very detail of Chisato's little faces and glances up to Sho :D I love this scene, and I wish it could come to life, because it's just so calming and so them ^^
i can't help itcalledinvainJune 22 2009, 06:18:37 UTC
Sho and Chisato reduce me to goo. Happy, sweet goo.
::flails right back at you::
BECAUSE SHE REMINDS HIM OF THE CAT HE ADOPTED. AND THEY ARE THE ODD COUPLE. And Sho immediately wonders where she's gone and he calls her Chisato, without the -san.
Re: it's simpler in moonlightbiasesJune 21 2009, 23:11:46 UTC
Wandered here via your post in atadan and just wanted to say that this fic was extraordinary! You captured Sho perfectly and I loved how everything played out. And hte last line was perfect, especially considering his past experience and his respect for Chisato.
Memming! Thank you so much for writing such a great fic!
I mean, one day, I think I could possibly write porn for them, but right now, they're at that stage I love the best, the tentative wooing and everyone has feelings and Sho doesn't want to frighten her off and Chisato doesn't want to say no....it's the dance. I love it.
Re: it's simpler in moonlightwistfulmemoryJune 21 2009, 23:28:22 UTC
I think everyone pretty much said everything I was thinking, but I love this fic. It's so sweet and romantic and something that would be wonderful if it actually happened.
Re: Sho's a romantic at heartwistfulmemoryJune 22 2009, 04:26:05 UTC
You're a wonderful writer, and I always enjoy reading your fics.
Oh, this is completely random and off topic, but there's a free weekly English magazine that can be found in Tokyo and Yokohama, and the cover model for last week was Meisa Kuroki. When I saw that, it made me think of you.
