More information and an official website has been released about Maki's new
spring dorama (which I have been calling The Littlest Hobo, and frankly, I
don't think I can adopt the Japanese title....because Littlest.Hobo.)
Pori-chan.com has the translation up for the press release, and I'll be
referring to it underneath the cut.
So far from the synopsis it looks like it'll be an interesting mixture of
comedy and social commentary, with a healthy dose of WTF. Because there's
Maki, professional orphan extraordinaire (I am trying to remember a role
where she's had either one or both parents alive or on the brink of
DEATH) and not deadbeat or abusive, and it's kind of difficult. I mean, yes,
there was Hana Kimi, but then *wracks brain* -- she's the go to girl for
Dead Parents and More Issues You Can Shake a Stick at lately. I'm not saying
she's being pigeonholed, but really. "I play a lot of characters with dead
parents, and oh, men have inappropriate feelings toward me because they
either think I'm their sister/a guy/a gift sent by JESUS."
Even though it's not the getsu drama for Fuji, they're devoting a lot of
time to blowing up hype for it - the week long slow reveal of the six
stepsons is a canny PR move. It just makes me think that the brothers will
be a mix of newcomers and/or really big bold face names (that have no ego
issues being billed as 'supporting characters'.)
The Littlest Hobo. I CANNOT WAIT.
*waves stick*
*come on, Kanata Hongo!*
