Yesterday:
Note to self, don't go shopping for clothes at the Salvos shortly after watching BSG. I kept thinking... hm, tan flares!
(I didn't *get* any! The whole point of the exercise was to get some more clothing that looked vaguely professional. (Having been - very nicely - reprimanded about standards of appearance a few weeks back, at one particular job))
When I tried my new acquisitions on at home, the phone went, with news I had a job interview. So they're clearly effective work clothes.
Wish me luck. If I get it, I'll have 4 jobs. Which sounds ridiculous. I think of it as 4 sources of work. It's a little odd, even CLink seems to be set up in terms of "having A job" vs not, rather than various sources of work. They got confused last time I went in and had done some work for an employer that I hadn't for the previous few fortnights, and I had to write explanations and footnotes and draw flowcharts in the margins of the form.
Today:
I have a question. What's the coolest thing about electron microscopy -
(1) The fact that, as one of the eleventy million preparation steps, you have to make your own knife?[1]
(2) The strangely DIY technique (especially given the concentration of expensive and specialised equipment involved the rest of the time) of using an *eyelash* to manipulate the thin sections?[2]
[1] Unless you can afford a diamond knife rather than making a glass one.
[2] Ok, apparently one can buy "eyelashes" nowadays. Though I hear many research assistants used to lose a lot of their own. Also I hear that rat whiskers work well too.
