Amster amster dam-dam-dam....

Anyone else ever sing that song at summer camp?

Here I am in Amsterdam.  The train trip wasn't terribly exciting -- lots of farmland and lots (lots) of sheep.  I'm at my little hotel and I couldn't be happier.  If you're ever thinking of checking out Amsterdam, I would highly recommend Hotel Prinsenhof.  They're pretty inexpensive(breakfast is included, and they say that no one is allowed to leave until s/he is "thoroughly satiated") particularly if you have a companion  (note to self), the staff were very sweet, my room is practically a palace and very comfortable, and this place, like the last one, has a live-in cat: a fat black one.  He stays put downstairs though.  And there is free wireless internet, yay!  I guess times are moving forward, and expecting there to be wireless internet even at budget hotels is not unreasonable.  And there's a radio this time, which is nice.  I hate when the room's too quiet.  So things are all good.  The cab driver was kind of a dick and I think overcharged me, but oh well.  That'll show me for cheating and resorting to cabs anyway.

What a neat little city.  Lots of rowhouses, very narrow and tall.  The steps leading up to them, and also inside to an extent, are very steep.  And of course, there are canals and bridges.  I'm going to finish settling in and go explore a bit.
