So on Sunday, I got up early and made another crack at going to see the Changing of the Guard, this time with Jen. Honestly, it was a bit of a bust. Weird, actually. On Friday, when I tried to go but got there too late to see over the crowd, there was definitely a lot of shouting and marching around and horses, etc. Today, there was a lot of standing around, a lot of dead air, and the band played the most peculiar mishmash of songs I'd ever heard. Oh well.
After that, Jen went back home and I went on to go see the Tower of London which I LOVED. I love going to see old castles; the only problem is that I always wish that I could explore the sections that are off-limits. The dark and abandoned parts are really mysterious and intriguing to me. I suppose they may not be entirely safe as well. Eh, so what. That's what I loved about going to see Tintagel on the high school trip to England I was on. The place isn't overly museum-ified and we were free to climb around and explore pretty much the entire ruin. Very neat. Anyway, the Tower:
In the castle's history, six people were beheaded where all the people are clustered in the picture; five of them were women (including one of Henry VIII's wives), because this was where they did the really politically hot executions that they worried would cause uproar.

After that, I walked along the river for awhile and got some dinner at a cafe. Gorgeous views.
By then I was very very sleepy because I still had not been getting enough of that. So I went home and was passed out before nine. It's now 8am and I've been up for over two hours. Tonight's NYE and I'd like to, you know, be out and about for it. I shall be drinking coffee today. By the way, I had an excellent cappuccino yesterday. Coffee's here, just not on every corner like in New York.
Today I'll be seeing a British pantomime -- Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, I think? Or maybe one of the others, I forget. Anyway, that'll be neat. I've been curious about such things.
And I guess that's it for 2007. Crazy. I always get pretty thoughtful, looking back on where I've been. It's been somethin'. That's gonna have to wait though. Have a wonderful new year, all. I hope it brings the best of things to you all. :)
