So unfortunately I lost the day today, as I was very sick and throwing up. And it was the first gorgeous blue sky day since I've been here, as luck would have it. I bet it'll be the last. I don't know if I got a bug or if it was something I ate or what, but at least I'm doing better now, and I'm planning on carrying on with my plans tomorrow morning.
Friday morning was an attempt to go see the Changing of the Guard that didn't really work out. I couldn't get my companion out of the house on time, and by the time we got to Buckingham there was no way we could see anything past the crowd. After that, we walked around in St. James Park and saw lots of birds that were a lot of fun to watch. There was one swan that apparently didn't like the other swan, 'cuz he kept raising up his wings and gliding silently over to chase him away.
We went over to Parliament, and then went to high tea at the Orangery at Kensington Palace. Tea was great, sandwiches were good, scones and clotted cream were to die for, cake was mediocre. It was a very nice time, though it's possible that that could be what made me sick, since Rachel wasn't well today either. That would be a shame.
Later that evening we went out to some Spanish bar, and then went salsa dancing at a place down the street. That was a lot of fun, cuz there were a lot of people there who actually knew how to dance and how to lead. The only damper on the evening was that our friend who was watching our stuff did a poor job of watching mine, and now I'm no longer in possession of a scarf that was a gift. Kinda sad.
So all seemed fine when I went to bed late last night, and then I woke up this morning at 6:30 terribly terribly nauseous, and for about six hours my stomach refused to have anything in it. Who knows. Anyway I've added more photos to the collection
here.
I've learned that the friend of a friend's place that I'll be staying at in Paris has one of those scary squat toilets. I've experienced such things before, though not in a place where I was actually staying. Good experience for a girly girl like me, I suppose.
Tomorrow is another trip to catch the guard change, and we're going to go see the changing of the Horse Guard as well. Also possible are the Tower of London and going to see a pantomime.
