001 [Video]

[Video flickers to life. The right half of a very irritable-looking redhead appears on-screen; she leans forward and adjusts the camera awhile until she's fully in frame.]

Day one in this place and I've had to put up with people bursting into song at every turn.

What is wrong with you people?

I thought maybe the afterlife or whatever the hell this place is would be more...restful. I'm not saying I thought I'd go to heaven. [Laughs] Please, don't get me wrong. But I'd gladly take fire and brimstone over a living, breathing musical any day.

[Saffron pauses and cocks her head, as if listening to something from afar; voices can be heard faintly nearby, which get louder until it becomes apparent that a chorus of passengers is singing in the hall outside. Saffron grimaces and shakes her head in disgust before turning her attention back to the camera.]

I. Want. Out.

Do you hear me?

[Turns head toward the ceiling of her room, as if addressing some higher power.]

I WANT OUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!

[She stops suddenly, panting, and the singing outside can be heard to reach a crescendo. Growling, Saffron snaps her head in the direction of the door.]

SHUT UP! [Turns back to the camera] And you! Admiral, whoever you are! What's going on?

[Saffron's face darkens in horror. She looks as if she's swallowed something awful, or like she's trying to keep herself from throwing up. Suddenly, before she can stop herself, her mouth opens and-

25 years and my life is still
Trying to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination
I realized quickly when I knew I should
That the whole world's MADE UP OF this brotherhood of man
FOR whatever that means

And so I cry sometimes when I'm lying in bed
Just to get it all out, what's in my head
And I, I am feeling a little peculiar
And so I wake in the morning and I step outside
And I take A deep breath and I get real high
And I scream from the top of my lungs,
What's goin' on

And I say hey.... hey....
I said hey, what's goin' on
And I say hey.... hey....
I said hey, what's goin' on

Ooh, Ooh, Oooohh, Oooohh, what's up...
Ooh, Ooh, Oooohh, Oooohh, what's up...

And I try, oh my God, do I try
I try all the time in this institution
And I pray, oh my God, do I pray
I pray every single day FOR A REVOLUTION!

And so I cry sometimes when I'm lying in bed
Just to get it all out, what's in my head
And I, I am feeling a little peculiar
And so I wake in the morning and I step outside
And I take deep breath and I get real high
And I scream from the top of my lungs,
WHAT'S GOIN' ON!!

And I say hey.... hey....
I said hey, what's goin' on
And I say hey.... hey....
I said hey, what's goin' on
And I say hey.... hey....
I said hey, what's goin' on
And I say hey.... hey....
I said hey, what's goin' on

Ooh, Ooh, Oooohh, Oooohh, what's up...

25 years and my life is still
Trying to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination

[Saffron finishes and seems to return to her senses, her cheeks flushed with the exertion of belting out such a passionate rendition. Gasping for breath, she brings a hand up to her face and realises she has been crying-she turns her head to the side, away from the camera, and wipes angrily at her face.]

[Fixing her gaze once more on the camera.] To whoever's responsible for this: I will personally track you down and sterilise you.

[Screen goes black.]
