Good Versus Great - justprompts

Great and good are seldom the same man. - Winston Churchill

Mortals expect their gods to be good. This is, no doubt, a desire to be led by beings that are all knowing, all wise and perfect. The Judeo Christian god is a good example of this fallacy. However, I am not interested in being that sort of icon to the masses. My choices, while frequently unfathomable to the average person, are made for complex circumstances. Occasionally, my choices are based upon my whim or mood, and I make no apology for that. I am the very definition of capricious, and that is simply my right.

You will not find me dictating a tome of explanations or parables to some prophet, so that later priests and politicos can reinterpret my words to suit their agenda. Let the other, lesser, gods sacrifice their immaculately conceived offspring to the masses so that they can pretend to "save" them. I have far better things to do. I prefer a more hands on approach to dealing with my followers. It may not call for herald angels and wise men, but it seems to make those who get the personal touch quite happy.

My greatness comes from my endurance, and my ability to see the bigger picture. The position I hold requires a great deal of diplomacy, not to mention keeping the members of the Pantheon perpetually at each others' throats. It is a bit like being Prime Minister, or President, but with a better salary and perks.

I am not interested in being good. Saints are almost singularly boring, save that Joan of Arc, who was fascinating. But greatness? Now that is something worth having. My greatness is legend in many arenas, and bedchambers, thus I doubt anyone will be forgetting my name anytime soon.
