My One-Week Election (a long-overdue post)

May 29, 2007 19:20

This year, I found myself letting go of opportunities of earning cash and experience (by working as paralegal for some candidates) for the reason that I would not let go of the opportunity to cast my vote. And I don’t regret it. This gives me the right to whine and complain about what our country is getting itself into. Hey, I may just be one of the many votes out there, but I’m proud to say that I did my part in making this country a little bit better. Well, I hope.

Anyway, not that anyone is interested, but here are the CANDIDATES I VOTED FOR senator and the REASONS why I did so. Many of you will surely disagree, but please, I don’t want to argue! These are just opinions anyway. J and besides, we don’t need any concrete reasons to vote for anyone, right? My gosh, even my dad voted for Jaworski for senator many years ago for the sole reason that he is a Ginebra fan!

1. Zubiri - (a) because my Auntie Percy (my mom’s sister and best friend) campaigned for him. (b) Heck, even my grandmother (my dad’s mom) campaigned for him in Aritao. (c) But then even if they didn’t, I would still vote for him because of his Biofuels Act and other pro-environment laws, (d) plus that he is from Mindanao and Mindanao needs a representative for the Senate.

2. Lacson - (a) because I voted for him for President in 2004, and (b) I want him to be president in 2010.

3. Arroyo - (a) because he is a human rights activist. (b) And just because I think he’s much better than anyone else. But you know, for some time, I considered not voting for him because he is OLD. He’s 80 years old! He may not be able to complete the 6-year term! *knock on wood*

4. Escudero - (a) because he’s young and gwapo, and a good speaker. (b) Because he has been in the congress for years.
5, 6, and 7. Sison, Paredes, and Bautista - (a) because they are from Ang Kapatiran. I do not know anything about them personally but I would vote for anyone that Ang Kapatiran would field. Not that I know anyone from there, only that I believe that they can make a difference.

8. Kiram - (a) because one of my friends ask me to. When I asked him to vote for Zubiri, he said he will, but only if I vote for Kiram.

9. Angara - (a) because he my brod.

10. Coseteng - (a) because when I saw her in the lobby in some fancy hotel, we had a small chat and she asked me, just as an aside, to campaign for her. I did not, but at least she had my vote. (b) Also because she’s a beautiful middle-aged chinita, which I want to be when I’m middle-aged. Hahaha.
How about you? Who did you vote for? Or did you even vote at all?
