Spring 2008: Osen & Aren't You a Criminal?

May 03, 2008 23:36

Osen is pretty much everything I expected it to be: fun, relaxed, and entertaining. The first episode had to lay down character and setting so it wasn't as "educational" (in terms of Japanese culture and cuisine) as I suspect later eps will be, but it sets up things quite nicely. The show is definitely eye-candy galore, especially Aoi Yuu, who is beyond lovely: she looks beautiful in every shot and is very charming as the slightly ditzy, sake-drinking Osen. Hiroki Uchi isn't bad on the eyes, either, if you're so inclined (the extra appeal for me being that he rather resembles Hu Ge), and they make a fitting 'almost opposites' pair. I didn't think there would be romance in this show but it seems like those two will be OTP. The people are pretty, the scenery is pretty, the food is pretty, Aoi's yukata's are gorgeous - so I'm pretty sure I'll be following this one. Watching it makes me kind of hungry, though.

The other jdrama pilot I tried today was Kimi Hannin Janai yo ne? (plot summary here), which was alright. It's your usual detective drama. The mystery of the week setup and the characters are kinda... average, but I'm sort of intrigued by the heroine's backstory. I may give it another ep or two to see if it'll hook me, so we'll see. Kaname Jun is silly in this one, but cute.

I think I must be the only person who isn't watching or isn't interested in Last Friends and/or Zettai Kareshi... :P
