The Long Drive
So the pre-trip started on Thursday Night. I moved everything out of the apartment, turned in my key and parking pass and left for Alpena. I took Breanne to my grandparents farm and around to say goodbye to the rest of the family.
FRIDAY:
We slept in til about 9 am and made sure we were on the road by 10:30 am.
At about 3:30 pm we meet up with April in Holland, Michigan. We passed April a walkie-talkie and hit the road... out first destination for the night was Lincoln, Nebraska. It would be 10 hours from Holland.. but we were determined to make it.
As we crossed the Mississipi River in Iowa, a crazy storm hit. The roads were so bad that we stopped as soon as we could. Unfortunately, that only gave us about 6-7 hours of drive time. We stayed in Iowa City. When we woke up the next morning it was shocking to see the news. The next town over, about 5 miles away was under two feet of water and there were tornadoes in nearby Des Moines. As we took off on the road there were jack-knifed and overturned trucks. Craziness.
SATURDAY:
Day two we drove through Iowa, Nebraska and into Colorado. We stayed the night in Denver at my cousin Jen's Condo. It was a lot of fun. We were on the road about 13 hours.
SUNDAY:
Woke up and hit the Rockies. Finished Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Nevada. We stopped in Vegas for an In N Out Burger and stayed at a hotel at the California/Nevada state line. My parents called ahead and bought us an awesome suite for the night. Fun Fun. About 13 hours on the road.
Monday
Woke up and finished the drive, a lot of traffic on the outskirts of LA. Made it in less than 5 hours with all of our gas and bathroom breaks.
As of right now i feel like i am only home for a quick vacation. Nothing has really set in. Freaking out about Macy's. I want to know where i am going to be.. I feel like a sitting duck. And i hate that.
