(no subject)
Had a nice couple of days... got together w/ ALL the fam here last night for a belated bday party for my brother in law ( babysat my niece for 5 hrs while he played golf w/my sister).. I finally got my 4Patriots Food Storage Bin...it was missing the CHICKEN ( the chicken ONLY comes in the Meat/All Meat bins and 0 of the other kits)! And the Black Beans ( relieved since I haven't even tried my refried beans of that flavor)...I did however, get a SECOND FULL order of the Southern Pinto but only a HALF sized portion of the Ground Beef ( 9 oz vs the full 19 oz) as substitutes I was informed ( too bad I can't hope for a chicken pouch to get sent to me but that would be superb Customer Service)...
I am debating on getting breakfast stuff ( hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, pancake mix) in either the #10 cans ( shelf life of 10 yrs unopened, 1 year once opened) or the pouches in kits...also found a good looking Southwest Chili Mix by Augason Farms and that Chef Banquet mac and cheese CASE ($119 for 240 servings but 30 servings a pouch? Might try a smaller portion/pouch from another company, ReadyHour seems to have GREAT reviews of the mac/cheese). Some of those handheld, portable camping burners look practical but I know I will always have either a stove, fridge or both..I do like trying to choose between ReadyWise, ReadyHour ( formerly My Patriot Supply), Augason Farms and Emergency Essentials, reading blogs and watching the FEW YouTube vids showcasing taste tests. Couldn't believe all the ppl on FB complaining about all the carbs/sodium... it's like hello, if you're on foot, trying to get help, you're going to NEED all that & this way, no one needs to stockpile salt.
I am going to see if Safeway carries any Augason Farms kits or cans cuz they came up when I hit 'near me'...sucks that Walmart/Target here DON'T carry anything of this variety! There's literally Hurricane Kits that would come in handy here but guess everyone just gets along fine w/Spam and saimin. Do a deep look at CostULess cuz they MIGHT carry at least 1 bucket of something ( 1 week, 72 hr, 2 wk, Hurricane Kit)..
At first, I thought I was 'obsessing' but after going to a few of their websites and seeing some of their 3-6 months kits SOLD OUT and some even the 1 year ones were SOLD OUT, realized maybe I should stock up water next..
I also got my thin cotton blanket and am awaiting my book, The Clinch still to come today!
I did manage a quick, slow walk ( sunny n toasty out) to Walmart/Target just now...never know what LOCKDOWN measures could happen with these 2 Variants now...stocked up stuff for chili dogs, 2 cans of Spam, 1 of Roast Beef in beef broth ( closest thing to Keystone's Shredded Beef here), chicken tacos, my beef broc, shrimp for Cajun or garlic butter, frozen veggies ( finally found veggies in sauce, only 1 out of the 4 I eat), Eggo French Toast and a big bag of trail mix...
The library isn't hiring after all ( got a $4.70 lunch tho and got an offer for a free lunch by a Ministry serving hot meals..walking means homeless, huh?)....but I do have a phone interview w/this Legacy Hilo place for a Housekeeper position Monday ( Nursing home tho, kinda reluctantly said ok but can always use the Variant as a scapegoat if don't like the facility/Alzheimer's wing) and it's only been a week since I was fired so not broke haha!
Fuckin job, my last check was for 2 hrs vs 18 which I would have gotten had Worker's Comp NOT denied my claim! Well at least the next few times I eat at Hilo Lunch Shop or Kawamoto Store, it will be on them!
I am looking forward to my next new beans and rice recipe that I am trying this week, since the Bulgogi w/just pinto beans n broc was REALLY good! I am trying a quick and easy Mexican beans and rice (not the slow cooker method just yet, just tossing cooked rice into pan of beans and spice paste)..
