King Kong

It has taken me quite a while, but finally I, with the company of Marie, dragged myself to Sandvika to see King Kong. And yes, it was a great movie! Extremely, terribly sad, but great nonetheless. But before I send out a spoiler warning, I just want to say this: his name; King Kong is ingenious. First, there is the fact that they call him King, and then there is Kong; the Norwegian word for king. (If you look it up in a dictionary, you would see the word "konge" meaning "king", but if you are going to say "king [insert name]" then it would be "kong [insert name]") So his name is King King, actually. The giant ape, who I so totally adore. (Yes, I used he word "who" on purpose)
Now I will say that there might be spoilers! Because I have not decided exactly what to write yet, I do not know how serious or dangerous these spoilers may be.

Men, well rather humans in general, can be so cruel. No, they cannot be, they are. Often. Just look at how they treated Kong! First, they break into his world, drug him down and ship him to New York. How stupid can you get?? You do not take a potentially dangerous animal into a big city, it is sure to snap with all those people around. There are no limits to what a man might do for money. Why did he not bring a dinosaur with him, too, I wonder? Then he could have made so much money that the ship would sink on the way back to New York. I felt so extremely undiscribable sorry for King Kong, his Beauty brought him nothing but death and destruction. But then, she tried to warn him, told him to go back while he still could.

What can you not do for love? I have to admit that the love story between Ann and Jack Driscoll never actually grabbed me, as most of my compassion went to Kong. I mean, imagine yourselves being drugged down with choloroform, dragged far far away from your home, chained with chains of strong steel and set on public view. Then you think you are going to see you only loved one, but it turns out to be an impostor. Then the audience start making noises. You realize that you loved one is out there somewhere, not too ar way, and that you actually can break free from your chains. The creatures walking around you are so small that you can easily step on them or just throw them away. What do you do? Stay calm and hope you wil soon wake up from this nightmare?

No.

You break the chains.

And roam through the streets of New York to look for your loved one. He was so cute when he picked up any blond-haired girl to see if she was Ann, and the disappointment in his eyes was crushing each time. I do not understand how anyone can blame him for going a little mad, after all, he is a world he does not know, that does not follow the normal rules, where small creatures have weapons that work over distance and small bullets can pierce even his strong hide. I repeat: why are men so cruel? Why could they just not let him be there on his island, why do people have to interfere all the time...? How difficult is it to let animals alone? They will in 97 % of all cases be better off then. How peaceful was he not, sitting on the top of Empire State Building watching the sunset?

Sometimes I wonder why animals have a tendency to touch me so much more deeply than any human intrigue (?) can ever do, but then I remember why, and realize that it was no point in wondering about it after all. And King Kong is no exception. Not even Billy Elliot could distract me, in fact, I did not even notice it was him before I looked up the movie on IMDB when I came home. Alright, short about the actors and human characters now: I thought I liked the Captain Englehorn, (gee, what a name,) as he always came at the right moment. But then I ended with hating him maybe most of all of the characters. He threw a bottle of chloroform right in Kong's face! I hate him!! And then there is Mr Hayes, he was alright and I have already said that I never became deeply involved in the Jack and Ann lovestory. And there is no more to say about that.

Back to the "beast", please. When Ann said that she could calm him down, who cared? Men seem to live for killing things that might be dangerous if upset. Who are not? He does not belong on New York, he did not ask to come there. I think maybe Peter Jackson exaggerated his human behaviour a little bit, but he was so adorable when he acted hurt after rescuing Ann from x number of meat-eating dinosaures. With every reason he turned his back on her. For a couple of seconds. And as she tried to catch up with him, he lifted her up and slang her over his shoulder. Looking at the sunset.

I cannot remember the last movie that made me cry so much. I do not think there is one.

animals, movies
