The porcelain was cool against the too-warm skin of her cheek. It felt wonderful.
This wasn’t the first time Reese had felt so sick - sick enough to find herself in the loo with her cheek against the seat after expelling the contents of her stomach. Reese had been meaning to tell Callum, but she usually didn’t feel ill until after they’d eaten breakfast together with Kiss, and after he left to go do whatever it was that he did at the office with his father. And then she usually felt just fine within a few hours, and by the time Callum came home again she’d forgotten all about how she hadn’t felt well earlier in the day.
But this was maybe the second week Reese had found herself in the loo feeling pretty awful.
“Mummy feel bad?”
Green eyes shifted to the little girl leaning against the door frame. Kiss was holding her pink bunny tight.
“Yeah. Mummy feels sick. Maybe it’s time to see a healer, huh?” Reese said as she sat up. She was very still for a long moment to gauge whether anything else wanted to come up, but it seemed her tummy had settled for now and she stood up. After wiping her face with a cool, damp cloth and rinsing her mouth, Reese picked up her little girl.
After twining her arms around Reese’s neck, Kiss pressed her cheek to hers. “Mummy see doc’or now?”
“Mmhmm. Otherwise I’ll forget just like I keep forgetting to tell Callum. I don’t want to get him sick, or you sick, or something. Mummy’s got to take care of herself just like she takes care of you.” Reese was tired and wanted to nap with her baby girl, but she’d learned a lot of things since becoming a mummy, and one of the most important was that she had to take care of herself if she was going to take care of Kiss. It was something she hadn’t ever been able to manage properly on her own, and was one of a million reasons her little girl had saved her.
She nuzzled her nose in Kiss’ blond waves and pressed a kiss there. “Livvy?”
A soft ‘pop’ signaled the elf’s arrival. “Missy needs?”
“If Callum comes back just let him know we’re at the healer’s,” she said as she set Kiss on the ground and got them both into sweaters. Her elf, and forever friend, handed her her new wand. Reese's smile was tired, though genuine. “Thanks, Miss Livvy.”
“Livvy likes to help. Livvy do all the things.”
“Livvy helps!” Kiss chimed in happily.
“Mmhmm,” Reese hummed as she buttoned up Kiss’ sweater. “Oh! And we’ll be in Hogsmeade,” she added to the elf as an afterthought. One that she was immensely proud of, since remembering details and leaving a trail of her whereabouts was a fairly new thing. (Though important, as Callum had stressed after he’d tracked her down one afternoon at the market where they’d met. He’d been so worried she’d disappeared again and Reese didn’t want him to worry. She didn’t want him to feel even for a moment what he felt before when she actually had been missing.)
“Hogsmeade and healer,” Livvy confirmed with nod that had her big ears flopping.
Reese and Kiss both nodded just as firmly in return and then Apparated away.
SUMMARY: Reese hasn’t been feeling good and decides to go see what’s wrong.
