He had left work before dusk for the first time in weeks. He had packed up, bit goodnight to his mentor without a second though and apparated home. Or more specifically, out into the meadow a short jog away from the Inn. Euan dropped his things at the beginning of the path and surveyed the
land. The sun was dipping just below the gentle contours of the landscape, creating a canvas of reds, pinks, and oranges across the sky.
The Auror trainee began a light jog across the field, no real destination in mind, he was just going. Perhaps he wasn't dressed correctly for a run, but he didn't care as the weight of the day began to recede. His
case, as it were, was due for review soon. He needed to speak to his mentor about it. He would mention it tomorrow.
It had been going better than he though, which was a good thing. Ms. Philips had done as they suggested and left her boyfriend and had gotten a better flat. He counted that as a very large blessing in and of itself.
Not really out of breath, but having no real interest in progressing further, he flopped down in the grass, staring up at the artist sky. He could remember coming out here as a small child, sometimes alone, sometimes with his grandparents' dog, sometimes with his grandfather, and just taking in the quiet and calm. Then, of course, he could also remember coming out and spinning in circles, collapsing on the ground as the world righted itself. If only it were that easy.
October was on them now and he wondered where time had gone. It seemed like just the other day he had been at the carnival when Jennings had made his final move, but now it was Autumn and Euan hadn't seen Rose since. Some friend he was. He should probably send her an owl. Or something.
He shivered as the wind blew through the trees. With the coming of Autumn came the promise of winter and even absent minded trainees weren't exempt from the chill. Though it gave him reason to get up and begin to amble towards the Inn. Things needed to be done. There was no point in staying out here with only his thoughts for company.
