Fumbling for her beeping phone, a sleepy Demi yawned as she caught the time blaring from her alarm clock. 2:33 AM. She groaned as her fingers brushed the cool surface of her blackberry. It was to early for phone conversations.
"Hello" She answered groggily, her eyes drooping slightly
"Demi?" She heard Selena's panicked whisper
Eyes wide open, Demi sat up suddenly "Sel, are you okay? What's wrong?"
"I'm scared Dem" Selena replied quietly "There's something outside my window and it's freaking me out"
Demi chuckled to herself "It's probably just a squirrel or something. Go back to sleep Sel"
"I can't" Selena whispered urgently "I'm trying to ignore it but it's scratching against the house"
"Go find your mom"
"Her flight got delayed and she and Brian are stuck in LA" Selena whined "Demi, I'm really scared"
Thinking for a moment, Demi bit her lip "Okay baby. I'll be over in a bit"
Hanging up the phone, Demi pulled her self out of the warm comfort of her bed and quickly dressed herself. She pulled on a pair of sweats and some sneakers, pulling her hair into a messy bun. Slipping her phone in her pocket, she tip-toed down the hall, careful not to wake any of her family. Quickly scribbling her mom a note and grabbing Dallas' keys off the counter, Demi headed out the front door and slipped into the driver seat of Dallas' beat up truck and pulled out onto the well-lit street.
After only minutes of driving, Demi pulled into Selena's driveway and ripped the keys from the ignition and clambered out of the truck, locking it then heading towards Selena's front door. She unlocked the door with the key Selena had given her when they were twelve, and quietly made her way towards Selena's room. When she opened Selena's door she was greeted by Selena tackling her in one of the biggest hugs she had ever received.
"I'm so glad you're here" Selena mumbled in her hair "Thank you for coming"
Wrapping her arms around her girlfriend, Demi tilted her head and planted a kiss against her cheek "Anything for you Sel"
Selena smiled into her neck and pulled away just enough to kiss Demi properly, slow and loving. She wrapped her arms around Demi's neck and pulled her in as close as possible, loving the feel of Demi's soft lips against her own.
A loud scratching noise against the side of the house had Selena pulling away abruptly, clinging onto Demi's arms "See" She said her eyes wide in fear "It won't stop! I don't know what it is!"
Frowning, Demi pulled away from Selena and slowly headed towards the window, pulling the curtains back and peeking out. She laughed aloud when she saw the sight in front of her.
"What? What's so funny?" Selena asked scrambling to the window.
Just below the window, a pair of yellow eyes stared back at them, a guilty paw raised against the wood on the side of the house. The light from the bedroom shone onto the ginger cat, causing Demi to laugh a little harder and Selena to blush in embarrassment.
"Shut-up" Selena blushed, hitting Demi's arm lightly "I was home alone and in the dark. It was scary"
Demi drew the curtains shut again and grinned at her pink-faced girlfriend "And you didn't think to look what it was?"
"I was scared!" Selena defended "No way was I goin out there"
Demi giggled and led Selena back to her bed, kicking off her sneakers as Selena climbed under the covers. She followed Selena and wrapped her in a tight embrace, kissing her head and pressing her face to her chest.
"Don't worry baby" She mumbled against Selena's cheek "I'll protect you from the big scary cat"
Selena smiled, reaching out for Demi's hand under the covers and tangling their fingers together "My hero"
