The world is a better place.
I was thinking and i really think society is better than ever. I mean, yeah you got your bad shit. But when you look at things as a whole.
The whole blood diamond issue. The first time i heard about it was while I was working at piercing pagoda. We got these cards that insured our customers that our diamonds were not "conflict diamonds". It really makes me feel better that the world has understood an issue and done so much to stop the bad.
Also with the support people are giving eachother. You see pink ribbons ever to help the fight to cure breast cancer. People helping in the ways they can, even if it's just giving money, buying the magnet, and putting it on your car. Those magnets are genius. One, they give money to their cause and 2, they inform others of the cause. I also like that fact that every day things we buy can have money taken and out toward our cause. Those damn pink ribbons on ice cream, crackers, DVD's, hair products, you name it. The teal ribbon for ovarian cancer is on hair care products at work. It's just people comming together in the simpilest way to help a cause. Even those bracelets. I mean they became fashionable. GREAT. Most people giving more money to help out around the world.
Also when you buy things with certain cards, part of the money can be put towards things like schools, your own or others.
The OVERWHELMING help there is for the california fire victums. I mean. they are getting help in a time of need. The fire disaster was compaired to Katrina, but we were getting people food and water and everything they could possibly need. I mean, people had a choice of Kosher food at the stadium. Common, that's just showing off. Teachers were volenteering at rescue sites and they said there were more teachers volenteering than there were children. California may be stuck up at times, but in a crisis we know how to be good neighbors.
Also the conservation efforts to save wildlife is AMAZING these days. There are parts of africa where most of the animals have been stripped away by potching and war. There are conservation efforts to rerealease animals back into the wild. Panda bear numbers are rising. Animals are being taken off endangered species lists faster than ever.
Besides what you see in the news, there is less crime and drug use today than there was 15 years ago. WOW.
Celebrities making it popular to adopt chilldren. I applaud you. I really give you so much credit. So what if it's other countries, children with no families are now being shown love like never before.
There are so many more things that I could say, but when people say that the worlds gone to hell.... that's not how i see it. Problems are more out in the open today than they were before. Before if there was a problem it was "hush hush" and pretend it didnt exist. They didnt talk about problems back then. Today, we are solving problems and helping others like never before. Not just america, but the world as a whole. It's a strange realization when you've been to the opposite side of the world. You realize how small it is. It really is a small small world.
